{"id":1094,"date":"2013-04-01T09:00:35","date_gmt":"2013-04-01T13:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/?p=1094"},"modified":"2013-03-26T14:58:29","modified_gmt":"2013-03-26T18:58:29","slug":"kaitlin-com-is-a-buffet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/2013\/04\/01\/kaitlin-com-is-a-buffet\/","title":{"rendered":"Kaitlin: COM is a Buffet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1095\" height=\"150\" width=\"150\" title=\"KaitlinDaddona\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/files\/2013\/03\/KaitlinDaddona-150x150.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/files\/2013\/03\/KaitlinDaddona-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/files\/2013\/03\/KaitlinDaddona-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/files\/2013\/03\/KaitlinDaddona.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m sitting here, scratching my head, trying to decide what to write about for this blog post, and it hit me.\u00a0 COM is a freaking buffet table.<\/p>\n<p>And no, I\u2019m not talking about those late night Chinese all you can eat buffets, I\u2019m talking about a real classy, high end buffet table with all kinds of exotic foods.<\/p>\n<p>Where am I going with this?<\/p>\n<p>Okay, okay.\u00a0 So opposed to a sit down dinner, where a server brings you what you want until you tell him to stop, a buffet table is spread nicely in a convenient spot in the room, ready for people to take what they need or want, when they need or want it.\u00a0 Both options can leave you stuffing your face until you\u2019re required to loosen your belt, but there\u2019s a very vital difference between the first and the second:\u00a0 for the second option, you\u2019ve gotta help yourself.<\/p>\n<p>So often, we look externally for some sort of perfect opportunity or divine inspiration.\u00a0 We have mentors and idols and friends and family (the waiters in my metaphor) who we hope will guide us to where we want to be (they bring us the seared duck and caviar), when all along, we have the capacity to get there on our own.<\/p>\n<p>What we constantly forget is our own serving skills.\u00a0 We\u2019ve gone through that training that teaches you how to correctly set a table or pour a glass of wine without spilling it.\u00a0 Try to take some time and realize that you have the potential to be your own greatest motivator.\u00a0 Create those chances of a lifetime for yourself, instead of waiting for them to be served to you on a silver platter.<\/p>\n<p>As I mentioned in my last post, I\u2019ve really been enjoying my junior year at BU, especially because I\u2019ve began to really find myself among all of the craziness that the city delivers.\u00a0 COM especially offers out so many appetizing chances to succeed that, at times, can be a bit overwhelming.\u00a0 What I\u2019ve learned recently is to not miss the tasty treats that sit right under your nose.\u00a0 I\u2019ve quit complaining and wondering when my chance to shine was going to come, and I got the hell up and chased it myself.<\/p>\n<p>Take whatever you care for from that table, but see if you can get up and walk there with the help of your own two feet.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m sitting here, scratching my head, trying to decide what to write about for this blog post, and it hit me.\u00a0 COM is a freaking buffet table.
