{"id":1360,"date":"2013-12-09T09:00:31","date_gmt":"2013-12-09T14:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/?p=1360"},"modified":"2013-12-08T13:51:30","modified_gmt":"2013-12-08T18:51:30","slug":"abby-fighting-finals-colds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/2013\/12\/09\/abby-fighting-finals-colds\/","title":{"rendered":"Abby: Fighting Finals Colds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/comblog\/files\/2013\/03\/AbbyCecchine.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/comblog\/files\/2013\/03\/AbbyCecchine-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"AbbyCecchine\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1089\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/files\/2013\/03\/AbbyCecchine-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/files\/2013\/03\/AbbyCecchine-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/files\/2013\/03\/AbbyCecchine.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>I\u2019m writing this snuggled under the covers with a thermometer in my mouth.\u00a0 I\u2019ve come down with a sniffly, sneezing, coughing cold.\u00a0 This is the first time I\u2019ve been sick away from home and it is scary and daunting.\u00a0 But I\u2019ve been able to get through it. \u00a0I wanted to share what helped me the most this cold season.\u00a0 *I\u2019m in no way what-so-ever a doctor.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Tell a friend.<\/span>\u00a0 It\u2019s good to let a friends who is here in Boston know you are feeling under the weather for a couple of reasons.\u00a0 They will know why you\u2019ve been MIA the past few hours and friends are good for checking up on you too.\u00a0 They might offer to help you.\u00a0 And by help I mean bring you soup and tissues from the store.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">And tell your mom\/dad\/older\/wiser.<\/span>\u00a0 They will have solid advice that you may not have thought of like \u201cLay down if you\u2019re dizzy, open the window if you\u2019re feverish and take some cold medicine already, Abby!\u201d Parents are also great at calming you down.\u00a0 I only have a simple cold, but in my mind I was sure I had a parasite and at least one broken bone.\u00a0 And I hadn\u2019t even looked at WebMD yet.\u00a0 My parents helped me rationalize and realize that I just have a stuffy nose and I will get better so CALM DOWN.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Netflix.<\/span>\u00a0 Part of why I was freaking out was because I was sitting in my room doing nothing but thinking about how I didn\u2019t feel well.\u00a0 Netflix is a great distraction and will keep your mind from making your symptoms worse.\u00a0 You could also watch a ton of cute puppy videos on youtube.\u00a0 Or read for one your classes if you are feeling really ambitious.\u00a0 But don\u2019t push yourself.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Tea.<\/span>\u00a0 Hot tea not only feels good on a sore throat, but drinking fluids will help your immune system fight off what ever is making you sick.\u00a0 And, am I the only one that thinks making tea is fun and relaxing?\u00a0 Yes? Well, whether you are microwaving a mug of water in a MicroFridge or using a water boiler and loose tea, you are taking quiet time from studying or watching a movie to relax.\u00a0 The warmth from the hot tea is also very comforting regardless of if you are sick or not.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Rhetty to go meals.<\/span>\u00a0 BU Dining has a great program called Rhetty-To-Go Meals.\u00a0 You can order them the day before online for breakfast lunch or dinner if you know you won\u2019t have time to sit down and eat or you will be off campus during a meal.\u00a0 Then you pick them up the next day.\u00a0 BU Dining also has a Flu meal option.\u00a0 The website also encourages you to have a Flu Buddy to pick up your meal and numbers for the Residence life office if you need help finding a Flu Buddy.\u00a0 They also have menus picked out by Student Health Services specifically for certain symptoms.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dining\/where-to-eat\/things-to-know\/rhetty-to-go\/rhetty-to-go-flu-meals\/\">http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dining\/where-to-eat\/things-to-know\/rhetty-to-go\/rhetty-to-go-flu-meals\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">SHS numbers.<\/span>\u00a0 Of course Student Health Services is always there for you too.
