{"id":1709,"date":"2015-02-25T09:00:54","date_gmt":"2015-02-25T14:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/?p=1709"},"modified":"2015-02-24T18:35:11","modified_gmt":"2015-02-24T23:35:11","slug":"eliza-pr-advanced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/2015\/02\/25\/eliza-pr-advanced\/","title":{"rendered":"Eliza: PR Advanced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This weekend, a group of COM students confused countless Engineering students by appearing at Photonics on a random Saturday.\u00a0 This invasion was, however, not without good cause.\u00a0 This weekend, Boston University\u2019s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (BUPRSSA) hosted its 9<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> Annual Regional Conference, bringing together PR students from a handful of colleges in the Northeast of the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For those of you who don\u2019t know, BUPRSSA is a pre-professional society for students interested in public relations.\u00a0 When I came to BU, I wasn\u2019t quite sure what I wanted to major in, so I joined BUPRSSA to learn more about the field of public relations.\u00a0 The chapter meets in COM each week, almost always with a PR <\/span><span class=\"s3\">professional who speaks to the chapter about their involvement in the field.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Saturday\u2019s conference, PR Advanced: Breaking Barriers, brought speakers from a conglomerate of speakers from companies such as Facebook, Jack Morton Worldwide, John Hancock, and major PR firms Fleishman-Hillard and Schneider Associates.\u00a0 The program also included keynote speaker Graham Kahr from Digital Royalty.\u00a0 The conference was meant to emphasize the changing role of PR professionals in our modern world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A major point of emphasis during the conference was media.\u00a0 I was able to listen to a presentation by two representatives from Jack Morton Worldwide who discussed the power of viral content in modern public relations.\u00a0 I was then lucky enough to attend a panel that included three journalists, who were asked to discuss their relationship with PR professionals.\u00a0 As a journalism and PR student, this panel was especially interesting to me.
