Last Friday, I turned twenty years old. <\/span><\/p>\n

That is the strangest sentence I\u2019ve ever typed. <\/span><\/p>\n

In the days leading up to my birthday, I felt I like I was have an almost-quarter life crisis. What have I done? I have never won the National Spelling Bee, I haven\u2019t starred on a hit Disney Channel show, and I haven\u2019t even seen The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (I know. I\u2019m sorry). <\/span><\/p>\n

Though I wasn\u2019t a child prodigy or even a teen one, I have done and learned a lot. <\/span><\/p>\n

Here are twenty things I\u2019ve learned in my twenty year life time:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. \n

    It\u2019s better if you do something earlier than later. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    It\u2019s better to known up to being late than make a dumb excuse.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    Unsweetened, black iced teas will help power your day when sleep isn\u2019t enough.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  4. \n

    Watching a movie can cure any bad feeling.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  5. \n

    Major in something that will make you happy instead of making your family happy.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  6. \n

    Sometimes, being your own quirky self is better than being like everyone else.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  7. \n

    You will never be as cool as Mick Jagger, but you sure can dress as cool as him.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  8. \n

    Being by yourself sometimes is better than being surrounded by people.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  9. \n

    Nap often.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  10. \n

    You\u2019re going to fail and you will get better.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  11. \n

    Cape Cod has the best warm lobster rolls.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  12. \n

    Go to that weeknight concert (unless you have an exam or work the next day).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  13. \n

    Care about people as much as you would care for yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  14. \n

    Having a venting session once in awhile is the best kind of detox.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  15. \n

    Drink as much water as you can.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  16. \n

    Make great things.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  17. \n

    Each day, find something that will make you laugh.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  18. \n

    Know when to be serious and know when to be goofy.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  19. \n

    Know when it\u2019s time to leave and go somewhere else.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  20. \n

    You are your own person. You have your own life. Stop trying to compete with the people around you.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Obviously, being twenty years old, I haven\u2019t cracked the surface. I still have a lot to learn. So for now, instead of focusing on the things I didn\u2019t do, I\u2019m going to focus on the things I\u2019m going to do…like figuring out when I\u2019m going to go back to Naco Taco for their plantains and tostones. <\/span><\/p>\n
