{"id":2453,"date":"2016-10-27T11:45:40","date_gmt":"2016-10-27T15:45:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/?p=2453"},"modified":"2016-10-26T18:47:58","modified_gmt":"2016-10-26T22:47:58","slug":"eliza-cool-things-to-do-during-study-abroad-part-3756","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/2016\/10\/27\/eliza-cool-things-to-do-during-study-abroad-part-3756\/","title":{"rendered":"Eliza: Cool Things to do During Study Abroad; part 3756"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So honestly, one of the coolest parts about BU in general (after COM, obviously) is our study abroad programs.\u00a0 I\u2019m just over half-way through my second study abroad with BU, and I have met as many students from other schools as I have from BU \u2013 a true testament to how amazing our programs are.<\/p>\n<p>While my summer program in Australia was absolutely amazing (shout out to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/abroad\/programs\/travel-writing-in-australia\/\">Sydney Travel Writing<\/a>\u00a0program!), I have now completely fallen in love with London.\u00a0 I\u2019ll probably never stop talking about either program, so sorry to everyone I encounter for the rest of my life, but both trips have been everything I\u2019ve hoped for and more.<\/p>\n<p>Since arriving in Europe, I\u2019ve had all sorts of grand ideas for big trips around the continent.\u00a0 But I quickly realized that my bank account, and my time frame, meant that I was probably not going to be able to pack in all the touring I had dreamed of.<\/p>\n<p>But because of this, I\u2019ve begun looking for other trips to do more locally, and have been rewarded with some great experiences.\u00a0 Here\u2019s a few of the places I\u2019ve visited, or am visiting, only a short bus ride from London.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span><\/span>Cambridge University: Honestly, Cambridge is worth the hype.\u00a0 I happened to visit on a beautiful day, and between the shocking lack of clouds and AMAZING\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitzbillies.com\/\">chocolate cake<\/a>\u00a0I had that day, it was a success.\u00a0 Before going, be sure to look into booking a tour on a punt, which essentially a far less glamourous version of a Venetian gondola.\u00a0 But often university students drive the punts, and they\u2019re the best people to show you around.<\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>Dover Cliffs and Dover Castle:\u00a0 The White Cliffs of Dover are iconic enough to have an epic, lyricless,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=15eu7ar5EKM\">song<\/a>about them (which I confess, I only know from the smash hit video game Guitar Hero).\u00a0 The castle that sits above them is one of the best preserved early medieval castles, and the area surrounding it has a history stretching from the castle all the way until World War II.<\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>Stratford-Upon-Avon: As my second degree is in English, you can be sure I toured\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shakespearesglobe.com\/?gclid=CMjSk86O988CFeMW0wodzdwEuw\">Shakespeare\u2019s Globe<\/a>within a few weeks of getting here.\u00a0 But I couldn\u2019t come all the way to the UK and not see his birthplace too!
