But every Wednesday night, I rush home to catch the latest episode of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Masked Singer<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a \u201cwho-sung-it\u201d competition show where celebrities anonymously battle each other by singing. It\u2019s my new favorite show, and here\u2019s why I\u2019m so obsessed with it:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>It\u2019s FUN!<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At first glance, <em>The<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Masked Singer <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is car crash tv: \u201cso disturbing, you can\u2019t look away.\u201d Liken this up to a bunch of unknowns in over-the-top costumes, hopping around on stage. Your first time watching the show you have no clue what\u2019s happening. All you know is that there\u2019s a celebrity under the mask, an all-star panel of judges, and oh &#8211; Nick Cannon is hosting <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">again<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. But what\u2019s better than your favorite stars <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">American-Idoling<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in elaborate Halloween costumes? It\u2019s a sight to see.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/comblog\/files\/2020\/03\/Screen-Shot-2020-03-05-at-11.17.56-AM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/comblog\/files\/2020\/03\/Screen-Shot-2020-03-05-at-11.17.56-AM.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2020-03-05 at 11.17.56 AM\" width=\"548\" height=\"414\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4785\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/files\/2020\/03\/Screen-Shot-2020-03-05-at-11.17.56-AM.png 548w, https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comblog\/files\/2020\/03\/Screen-Shot-2020-03-05-at-11.17.56-AM-300x227.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Celebrities show their true selves (without actually showing their true selves)!\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The point of the show is that celebrities have a chance to reinvent themselves. In an industry where you can easily be typecast, \u201ccanceled,\u201d or become irrelevant, many stars feel as though they\u2019re misunderstood. When they come on the show, they have a chance to explain their story &#8211; and they do, tears and all. Every single person who has been voted out has said it\u2019s the \u201cbest experience ever,\u201d and has allowed for them to show their talent without their name preceding them. I\u2019m not going to spoil the Season 1 and Season 2 winners, but if you ever watch &#8211; they will make you a bit teary-eyed. Every week, they give you a clue package &#8211; full of mysterious, little known or well-hidden facts about the singer. By doing so, the audience gets as involved as the judges. When I watch with my friends, we pull out little clues here and there to make our guesses. That being said, it\u2019s easy to find a spoiler. If you don\u2019t know who the celebrity is, everything seems cryptic. If you do know the celebrity under the mask, it\u2019s glaringly obvious once you see their clue packages and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">everyone <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">wants you to know what they know. The fun is in the guessing process for me, so this season I\u2019ve decided to be spoiler-free. I don\u2019t want anybody watching with me to google anything, and if I ever see a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Masked Singer<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> headline, I cover my screen immediately!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Aside from all the fun of the show, what I love most about it is that it forces me to take time for myself. With homework, projects, and internships, an hour spent watching TV can seem wasteful. But in my commitment to have a spoiler-free season, I\u2019m dedicated to watching each episode\u2019s premieres so that the surprise isn\u2019t ruined for me the next day.
