stress!\u00a0 Here are some tips on how to make an awesome first impression without having a minor heart attack in the process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. <\/strong><strong>Do some research beforehand<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Make sure you know about the company before you walk into your interview!\u00a0 It will make you look professional and dedicated if you mention that you recently saw an article about the company in the news.\u00a0 Also, think about what kind of questions they might ask you and how you would answer them!\u00a0 And come prepared with some of your own questions to ask them at the end of the interview!<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <\/strong><strong>Dress professionally<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pick out your outfit the night before so that you won\u2019t have to stress about it in the morning.\u00a0 Even if you know that many employees wear jeans to work, still dress professionally!\u00a0 They\u2019ve earned the right to dress that way after working for the company for 10 years, you haven\u2019t!\u00a0 If you need some fashion advice, the BU Center for Career Development has some great tips for how to dress for an interview!\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/careers\/networking-interviews\/interviewing-the-big-picture\/dress-for-the-interview\/\"><\/a><strong>3. <\/strong><strong>Arrive early and come prepared<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Give yourself plenty of time to get to the interview, that way when you come in you won\u2019t look stressed or out of breath.\u00a0 Punctuality is key, and a company won\u2019t hire you if they don\u2019t think you\u2019re reliable.\u00a0 Nothing looks worse than strolling in 10 minutes late!\u00a0 And don\u2019t forget business cards and copies of your resume!<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. <\/strong><strong>Relax and look interested<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Take a deep breath and try to calm your nerves right before you go in!\u00a0 Give the person interviewing you a firm handshake when you\u2019re introduced, and make eye contact with them throughout the interview.\u00a0 Nod your head and really pay attention to what they\u2019re saying.\u00a0 Show them that you\u2019re interested and passionate about the position.\u00a0 Body language is crucial- sit up straight and smile!\u00a0 And take a second to think before answering a question so that you sound clear and well-spoken.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. <\/strong><strong>Talk yourself up<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Remember, if you got to the interviewing process, they must have seen something in you that they liked!\u00a0 Have confidence in yourself and remember that it\u2019s alright to brag!\u00a0 Be proud of your past accomplishments, and tell them how your experience and skills would make you a perfect fit for the company.\u00a0 This is your chance to make a great first impression and show them just how wonderful you are!<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. <\/strong><strong>Thank them afterward<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Make sure at the end of the interview that you thank them for their time.\u00a0 These people are very busy, and took time out of their day to give you a chance!\u00a0 A handwritten thank you note or email is the perfect way to show how thankful you are!\u00a0 Follow up and try to stay in touch-never underestimate the importance of networking and making
