(Just kidding, I actually have gotten pretty good at it, but that was more dramatic right?) Honestly, it never gets easier or less stressful.\u00a0 And this past semester, being in grad school added that extra workload that nearly put me over the edge.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment1384\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment1384\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"\/comgrad\/files\/2014\/12\/Ali-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 0px none;margin: 5px\" src=\"\/comgrad\/files\/2014\/12\/Ali-1.jpg\" alt=\"Ali 1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1384\" height=\"470\" width=\"470\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comgrad\/files\/2014\/12\/Ali-1.jpg 470w, https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comgrad\/files\/2014\/12\/Ali-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comgrad\/files\/2014\/12\/Ali-1-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment1384\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Me (in grey) and my teammate, Ariana Aston, celebrate after beating Navy in our conference opener this year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The NCAA designates 20 hours a week of required activities for Division 1 athletes while in season.\u00a0 This is supposed to give students time to actually be students and maybe even have a social life.\u00a0 But what they don\u2019t take into account is all the other little things that come along with being a student athlete.\u00a0 To explain, let me give you a better idea as to what my schedule looks like as a grad student-athlete:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Practice every day (except for game day and the one required day off per week)<\/li>\n<li>Lift twice a week<\/li>\n<li>Team meeting once a week (and the occasionally individual goal-setting meeting with Coach)<\/li>\n<li>Extra workouts once a week<\/li>\n<li>Games, for which the NCAA automatically designates three hours for competition.\u00a0 That means that travel time \u2013 whether it\u2019s the 10 minute drive to Harvard, the six hour bus ride to Bucknell or the flight down to Navy (both of which are just two of our many overnight trips) \u2013 doesn\u2019t really count.<\/li>\n<li>Leadership meetings (as a captain)<\/li>\n<li>Doctor\u2019s appointments and rehabilitation in the athletic training room (four years of throwing yourself on the ground takes a toll on the body)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yeah, it\u2019s a lot more than 20 hours.\u00a0 Yet, somehow I\u2019m supposed to still have time to go to class (which I sometimes have to miss due to travel), do homework (when I\u2019m not at practice or in the training room), and schedule group meetings with my poor classmates who always have to work around my busy schedule.\u00a0 Work? Friends? Boyfriend? Netflix? SLEEP?
