And how about if these directors came to screenings at your school?! This happens nearly every other Friday at COM\u2019s Department of Film and Television\u2019s Cinematheque series.<\/p>\n<p>Cinematheque gives students the chance to hear from people in the television and film industries; directors, products, writers, or even actors.\u00a0 The events vary in topic and type, some including screenings and others including more of a Q&amp;A format.\u00a0 With about five held each semester, students have ample opportunity to gain insight into what really goes into creating these projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe try to make it a more interesting experience than just passively watching,\u201d says Paul Schneider, chairman of the Department of Film and Television.\u00a0 Schneider explains that they typically have one of the creators of the project over so that students can get an inside look at how the material was created.\u00a0 That way, students can ask them questions about certain decisions the creators made and why.<\/p>\n<p>The series is curated by Gerald Peary, a film critic and documentarian who goes to a tremendous number of film festivals throughout the year.\u00a0 Topics come from either films that Peary has seen and thought were worth bringing back to BU, or sometimes successful alumni who are willing to come back and share their stories.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment1558\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment1558\" style=\"width: 234px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"\/comgrad\/files\/2015\/03\/cinematheque-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/comgrad\/files\/2015\/03\/cinematheque-2-234x300.jpg\" alt=\"Eliza Dushku\" width=\"234\" height=\"300\" class=\"wp-image-1558 size-medium\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comgrad\/files\/2015\/03\/cinematheque-2-234x300.jpg 234w, https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comgrad\/files\/2015\/03\/cinematheque-2-799x1024.jpg 799w, https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/comgrad\/files\/2015\/03\/cinematheque-2.jpg 1545w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 234px) 100vw, 234px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment1558\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eliza Dushku<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The most recent event, \u201cAn Evening with Eliza Dushku,\u201d took a look at some of the actress\u2019 roles.\u00a0 Dushku is most well known for her role as Missy Pantone in <em>Bring It On<\/em>.\u00a0 However, her acting career includes an extensive list of films and television shows, including &#8220;Buffy the Vampire Slayer&#8221; and &#8220;Dollhouse,&#8221; in addition to guest roles on &#8220;White Collar&#8221; and &#8220;Ugly Betty.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t have that many actors come in,\u201d adds Schneider, explaining that it is interesting to hear from actors to learn more about their career paths and points of view.\u00a0 \u201cThat\u2019s part of the fun of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the Cinematheque series is to give students a \u201cconnection with what\u2019s going on in the real world,\u201d according to Schneider.\u00a0 That is why they often bring in fairly young, independent filmmakers who haven\u2019t been out of school for very long themselves.\u00a0 An example of this includes three BU alumni who, earlier this semester, showed select episodes from their popular Web series, &#8220;Allston Xmas.&#8221;\u00a0 (For a full schedule, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/academics\/film-tv\/cinematheque\/\">this page<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Whether it\u2019s a documentarian following a kidnapping or the production designer from &#8220;Life of Pi,&#8221; students are sure to hear from some interesting and successful professionals who are working in the industry as they speak. \u201cIt\u2019s an educational experience that goes beyond simply watching the show,\u201d Schneider says.<\/p>\n<p>Eliza Dushku picture credit: Boston.com<\/p>\n<p>Featured image courtesy: BU COM website<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ali Parisi MS Public Relations &#8217;16 BU College of Communication How cool is it to speak with directors and ask them questions about their films?\u00a0 Very, right?
