{"id":1499,"date":"2011-12-05T18:15:27","date_gmt":"2011-12-05T22:15:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/core\/?p=1499"},"modified":"2011-12-05T18:15:27","modified_gmt":"2011-12-05T22:15:27","slug":"this-wednesday-theater-of-war-at-bu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/core\/2011\/12\/05\/this-wednesday-theater-of-war-at-bu\/","title":{"rendered":"This Wednesday: Theater of War at BU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/classics\/people\/faculty\/stephen-esposito\/\">Prof. Stephen Esposito<\/a>, of the BU Department of Classics, writes: <\/em><\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, <strong>December 7<sup>th<\/sup>,<\/strong> the 70<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of Pearl Harbor, <strong><em>Theater of War<\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em>will visit Boston University and perform scenes from <strong>Sophocles\u2019 <em>Ajax<\/em><\/strong>, the only play in Greek tragedy that depicts the suicide of a soldier in war. This play has been a major focus of our study in first-semester Core Humanities and this performance at Tsai will be the intellectual and emotional culmination of our semester. After the stage reading there will be a panel and audience discussion with representatives from the BU military community and the student body at large.<\/p>\n<p><em>Theater of War<\/em> is an innovative project that presents readings of ancient Greek plays as a catalyst for town-hall discussions about the challenges faced by our soldiers and veterans. This unique stage production and panel discussion is designed to raise awareness and reduce stigma of the psychological and physical wounds of war.\u00a0 Our event is presented in collaboration with <strong>The Red Sox Foundation<\/strong> and <strong>Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program<\/strong>. <em>Theater of War Productions<\/em> has presented 175 performances for military and civilian communities throughout the United States, Europe and Japan.
