From <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/core\/tag\/david-ferry\/\">David Ferry&#8217;s<\/a> version of the epic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Gilgamesh-New-Rendering-English-Verse\/dp\/0374523835\"><em>Gilgamesh<\/em><\/a>, Tablet II, pp. 12-13:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>They cooked food and set it down before him;<br \/>\nthey brought out beer they had brewed and set it down.<\/p>\n<p>But Enkidu knew nothing about these things,<br \/>\nso he sat and stared at the cooked food and the beer<\/p>\n<p>for a very long time, not knowing what to do.<br \/>\nThen Shamhat, the harlot, the temple prostitute,<\/p>\n<p>said: &#8220;Enkidu, this is the food and drink<br \/>\nmen eat and drink. Eat and drink your fill.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So Enkidu ate his fill of the cooked food,<br \/>\nand drank the beer.
