Even the most erudite and cultured Core students and faculty have at some point in their lives been placed in a sticky situation where lying about having read a book is the easiest way out.<\/p>\n

A useful post<\/a> from The Guardian <\/em>gives us a study of the top ten books that people have pretended to have read:<\/p>\n

  3. Great Expectations<\/em> by Charles Dickens (18%)<\/li>\n
  4. The Catcher in the Rye<\/em> by JD Salinger (15%)<\/li>\n
  5. A Passage to India<\/em> by EM Forster (12%)<\/li>\n
  6. Lord of the Rings<\/em> by JRR Tolkien (11%)<\/li>\n
  7. To Kill A Mocking Bird<\/em> by Harper Lee (10%)<\/li>\n
  8. Crime and Punishment<\/em> by Fyodor Dostoevsky (8%)<\/li>\n
  9. Pride and Prejudice<\/em> by Jane Austen (8%)<\/li>\n
  10. Jane Eyre<\/em> by Charlotte Bronte (5%)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
