So, my question is: Would it be just to ban  Sophocles and his plays in the city of Athens, when they clearly show a  deep understanding of the human condition?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/classics\/faculty\/profiles\/esposito.html\">Stephen Esposito<\/a>, associate professor of classical studies and instructor in the Core Humanities, giving an example of the way individual liberty and civic interests can come into conflict, during the panel debate on democracy which took place during the last lecture of CC101 for this fall semester. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ir\/faculty\/alphabetical\/corgan\/\">Prof. Michael Corgan<\/a> (International Relations), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/philo\/faculty\/roochnik.html\">Prof. David Roochnik<\/a> (Philosophy), and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/classics\/faculty\/profiles\/samons.html\">Prof. Jay Samons<\/a> (Classics) also took part in this interdisciplinary discussion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Democracy-Athenian-Practice-American-Worship\/dp\/0520236602\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-481\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/core\/files\/2010\/12\/book1.jpg\" alt=\"book\" width=\"169\" height=\"257\" \/><\/a>*<\/p>\n<p>The complex strengths and shortcomings of democracy are a particular specialty of Prof. Samons, whose book<em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Democracy-Athenian-Practice-American-Worship\/dp\/0520236602\">What&#8217;s Wrong With Democracy?
