We&#8217;re lucky all of our Core authors are long since deceased; otherwise, we&#8217;d be in a mess of trouble. But no matter. We&#8217;ve got a end-of-the-year wrap-up to usher in the long-awaited new year. (That&#8217;s a lotta hyphens&#8230;)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Did you know that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foresthillsconnection.com\/animal-life\/hunting-for-orion-in-our-winter-night-sky\/\">ancient Sumerians interpreted the constellation Orion as the epic hero Gilgamesh<\/a>? Incidentally, the constellation should now be easy to spot in our winter sky. (Public Domain)<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Speaking of Gilgamesh, earlier this year saw <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/entertainment\/music\/vonrhein\/ct-grant-park-gilgamesh-review-ent-0704-20160702-column.html\">the performance of the 1955 oratorio &#8220;The Epic of Gilgamesh&#8221;<\/a> by Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu at the Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago. The hero&#8217;s anguish following the death of Enkidu is particularly moving.<\/li>\n<li>In an opinion piece in the <em>New York Times<\/em>, Colby College sociology professor Neil Gross <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/12\/16\/opinion\/sunday\/are-americans-experiencing-collective-trauma.html?_r=0\">wonders whether collective trauma played a part in the recent election<\/a>. He bases his article on Durkheim&#8217;s concept of &#8220;norms, values and rituals [as] the linchpins of social order,&#8221; which, when disrupted, may cause collective trauma.<\/li>\n<li>William Blake&#8217;s cottage<a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2016\/12\/13\/trustees-have-failed-see-william-blake-cottage-restoration-say\/\"> seems to be suffering despite promises of restoration<\/a>.
