Our hope for this month is that the sun will finally emerge (but not too much).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Turns out Montaigne was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2017\/may\/24\/have-a-lover-have-friends-read-books-said-montaigne-he-was-right-about-one-of-them\">an early promoter of bibliotherapy<\/a> (as well as the unreliability of relationships with other people). An insight: Human beings will abandon you, but books will never leave.<\/li>\n<li><em>Candide, An American Dream<\/em> is writer-director Ken Finkleman&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/entertainment\/movies\/2017\/06\/02\/ken-finklemans-latest-feature-a-modern-take-on-candide.html\">modern-day take on Voltaire&#8217;s work<\/a>. The film runs from June 2-4 at the Royal Cinema in Toronto, Ontario.<\/li>\n<li>Speaking of updates, Jeff James and James Yeatsman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/stage\/2017\/jun\/02\/persuasion-review-jane-austen-royal-exchange-manchester\">bring Jane Austen&#8217;s <em>Persuasion<\/em> to the stage<\/a> in a production that features a playlist with songs by Nicki Minaj, among others, as well as bikinis, a dance floor, and a distinct lack of crinoline. Quiet his restless spirit by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biography.com\/news\/walt-whitman-facts\">reading some fun facts over on Biography.com<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>In his recently published work <em>Goethe: Life as a Work of Art<\/em>, translated by David Dollenmayer, Rdiger Safranski claims that the polymath calculated his experiences <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/entertainment\/books\/a-new-look-at-goethe-a-one-time-cultural-celebrity\/2017\/05\/16\/7023faca-3745-11e7-b412-62beef8121f7_story.html\">so that each one would lead to personal growth<\/a>.
