She points out that the philosopher Lao Tzu has some great eco-quotes, such as this one, from the 8 section of the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Tao-Te-Ching-Lao-Tzu\/dp\/0872202321\/\">Tao Te Ching<\/a><\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Best to be like water<br \/>\nWhich benefits the ten thousand things<br \/>\nAnd does not contend<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>and this one, from the 29th section:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The world is a spiritual vessel<br \/>\nAnd cannot be controlled<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She also brought to our attention two quotes from poet William Wordsworth\u2019s &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tintern_Abbey_%28poem%29\">Tintern Abbey<\/a>.&#8221; Here are lines 107 to 111:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>well pleased to recognize<br \/>\nin nature and the language of the sense<br \/>\nThe anchor of my purest thoughts, the nurse,<br \/>\nThe guide, the guardian of my heart, and soul<br \/>\nOf all my moral being.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>and here are lines 122 to 123:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Nature never did betray<br \/>\nThe heart that loved her.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Thanks to Professor Nelson for your contributions!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/core\/faculty\/corsentino.htm\">Prof. Anthony Corsentino<\/a> also pointed out us a great quote from the Tao, section 53:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Great TAO is very smooth,<br \/>\nBut people like rough trails.<\/p>\n<p>The government is divided,<br \/>\nFields are overgrown,<br \/>\nGranaries are empty,<br \/>\nBut the nobles&#8217; clothes are gorgeous,<br \/>\nTheir belts show off swords,<br \/>\nAnd they are glutted with food and drink.<br \/>\nPersonal wealth is excessive.<\/p>\n<p>This is called thieves&#8217; endowment,<br \/>\nBut it is not TAO.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Thanks Professor Corsentino!<\/p>\n<p>It would be great to get some student contributions for the Project. So keep your eyes and your mind open for eco-themed quotes as you&#8217;re doing your Core readings!
