{"id":1411,"date":"2014-07-07T17:01:17","date_gmt":"2014-07-07T21:01:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/crwr\/?p=1411"},"modified":"2014-07-07T17:01:17","modified_gmt":"2014-07-07T21:01:17","slug":"megan-collins-published-in-rattle-and-3elements-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/crwr\/2014\/07\/07\/megan-collins-published-in-rattle-and-3elements-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Megan Collins published in Rattle and 3Elements Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/crwr\/files\/2014\/07\/megancollin.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/crwr\/files\/2014\/07\/megancollin-201x300.jpeg\" alt=\"megancollin\" width=\"201\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/crwr\/files\/2014\/07\/megancollin-201x300.jpeg 201w, https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/crwr\/files\/2014\/07\/megancollin.jpeg 259w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 201px) 100vw, 201px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Wonderful news for Megan Collins (Poetry &#8217;08)! \u00a0Megan&#8217;s stirring poem, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rattle.com\/poetry\/after-the-memorial-by-megan-collins\/\">&#8220;After the Memorial,&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0recently appeared\u00a0in\u00a0<em>Rattle. \u00a0<\/em>The poem was published as part of the Poets Respond\u00a0project, in which poets respond to current events.<\/p>\n<p>Megan says:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI wrote this poem in response to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcconnecticut.com\/news\/local\/Ellington-Mourns-Loss-of-Teen-Killed-in-ATV-Accident-263919411.html\">a local tragedy<\/a>\u00a0in which a teenager, Austin Tautkus of Ellington, Connecticut, was killed in an ATV accident. On Tuesday of this week, there was a memorial in which people gathered to let go of balloons filled with messages they had written for the boy. The idea of this tribute moved me, and I wondered what would happen to those messages, where they would end up, once the balloons popped. In writing this poem, I imagined a kind of healing end to that story, both for those who knew Tautkus and those who didn\u2019t but are similarly affected by their own personal heartaches.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In addition, Megan recently published <a href=\"http:\/\/3elementsreview.com\/stories-from-art\/\">this flash fiction piece<\/a> at <em>3Elements Review<\/em> for their Stories from Art project!<\/p>\n<p>And, if that weren&#8217;t enough, she also has poems forthcoming\u00a0in <em>Blast Furnace, Blinders Literary Journal, Hartskill Review, Off the Coast, Toad, and Tinderbox Poetry Journal,<\/em> as well as a flash fiction piece forthcoming in <em>Dialogual<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Major congratulations, Megan!<\/p>\n<p>Megan Collins received her MFA from Boston University. She teaches creative writing at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, as well as world literature at Central Connecticut State University.
