{"id":2415,"date":"2017-10-16T15:36:58","date_gmt":"2017-10-16T19:36:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/crwr\/?p=2415"},"modified":"2017-10-16T15:38:00","modified_gmt":"2017-10-16T19:38:00","slug":"laura-marris-upcoming-readings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/crwr\/2017\/10\/16\/laura-marris-upcoming-readings\/","title":{"rendered":"Laura Marris&#8217; upcoming readings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/crwr\/2017\/10\/16\/laura-marris-upcoming-readings\/laura_marris_bio\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2416\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/crwr\/files\/2017\/10\/Laura_Marris_bio-300x260.jpg\" alt=\"Laura_Marris_bio\" width=\"285\" height=\"247\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2416\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/crwr\/files\/2017\/10\/Laura_Marris_bio-300x260.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/crwr\/files\/2017\/10\/Laura_Marris_bio-768x666.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/crwr\/files\/2017\/10\/Laura_Marris_bio-1024x889.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 285px) 100vw, 285px\" \/><\/a>We&#8217;re so excited for Laura Marris (Poetry &#8217;13) whose translations are forthcoming this fall! \u00a0Laura traveled to France on her Global Fellowship in 2013, where she translated a book\u00a0by (and spent time with!) the Breton poet Paol Keineg. \u00a0Since then, she&#8217;s been hard at work on a few translations as well as her own poetry.\u00a0 We&#8217;re happy to be spreading the word about her upcoming readings, listed below:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/1808923455792257\/?acontext=%7B%22action_history%22%3A[%7B%22mechanism%22%3A%22bookmarks%22%2C%22surface%22%3A%22bookmarks_menu%22%2C%22extra_data%22%3A%22[]%22%7D%2C%7B%22surface%22%3A%22dashboard%22%2C%22mechanism%22%3A%22calendar_tab_event%22%2C%22extra_data%22%3A%22[]%22%7D]%2C%22ref%22%3A46%2C%22source%22%3A2%7D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 20th at 8pm, Molasses Books, Bushwick<\/a><br \/>\n<span>Laura will be reading with\u00a0writers\/translators David Larsen, Kyle Dacuyan, and Todd Portnowitz to celebrate the release of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyrb.com\/products\/blood-dark?variant=40841723399\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BLOOD DARK<\/a><span>, which she\u00a0describes as &#8220;a creepy tale of patriotism gone wrong.&#8221; \u00a0Set in\u00a01917 during WWI, it tells the story of Cripure, a failed philosopher who teaches high school ethics. \u00a0 Richard Sieburth calls this character &#8220;a monstrous Ahab of the intellect suicidally in quest of his Nietzschean white whale.&#8221; \u00a0Intrigued? \u00a0Copies of the book will be on sale at the event!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brown.edu\/academics\/literary-arts\/events\/paol-keineg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 25th at 7pm, McCormack Family Theater, Brown University<\/a><br \/>\n<span>Paol Keineg and\u00a0Rosmarie Waldrop will be reading with Laura to\u00a0launch\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.burningdeck.com\/catalog\/keineg2.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i>Triste Tristan and Other Poems<\/i><\/a><span>, a volume they co-translated. &#8220;Triste Tristan&#8221; knits\u00a0early medieval versions of &#8220;Tristan and Iseult&#8221; together with a demythologizing perspective that &#8220;takes down the pants of the lyrical tradition.&#8221; Other poems layer the landscapes of Brittany and America with meditations on history, writing, memory, and exile.
