{"id":2577,"date":"2018-08-16T16:13:30","date_gmt":"2018-08-16T20:13:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/crwr\/?p=2577"},"modified":"2018-08-16T16:17:33","modified_gmt":"2018-08-16T20:17:33","slug":"tara-skurtu-gives-ted-talk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/crwr\/2018\/08\/16\/tara-skurtu-gives-ted-talk\/","title":{"rendered":"Tara Skurtu gives TED talk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6QKVcyy1WC8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Big news from <a href=\"http:\/\/taraskurtu.com\/\">Tara Skurtu<\/a> (Poetry &#8217;13), who gave a TEDx Talk in Romania earlier this summer!\u00a0 Entitled &#8220;Unlearning Uncreativity,&#8221; the lecture took place at TEDxEroilor in Cluj, a city in the Transylvania region of Romania.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the Romanian translation of Tara&#8217;s book <em>The Amoeba Game<\/em> was recently published by one of Romania&#8217;s main publishing houses, Nemira.\u00a0 Tiberiu Neac\u0219u and Radu Vancu translated her work.<\/p>\n<p>Below, we&#8217;re excited to share her summer reading list, complete with blurbs from Tara herself.\u00a0 Many thanks, Tara, and hearty congratulations!<\/p>\n<p>Tara Skurtu&#8217;s Summer Reading List<\/p>\n<p><em>Stay With Me<\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0Ayobami Adebayo<br \/>\nThis debut novel, set in Nigeria, tells the journey of a marriage from both perspectives, navigating love, loyalty, betrayal, despair, and political tumult. I got so sucked into this novel I finished it in two sittings, and I read the last ten or so pages as slowly as I could because I didn&#8217;t want the story to to end.<\/p>\n<p><em>Turtle Diary\u00a0<\/em>by Russell Hoban<br \/>\nThis was recommended to me by the manager of my favorite English bookshop in Bucharest, Carturesti &amp; Friends (formerly Anthony Frost). It&#8217;s a beautifully introspective, poetic novel revolving around the thoughts of two characters who feel the need to free some sea turtles from the zoo.<\/p>\n<p><em>Half-Light: Collected Poems 1965-2016<\/em>\u00a0by Frank Bidart<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve been revisiting some of Bidart&#8217;s poems and discovering new ones in this gorgeous Pulitzer Prize-winning book of 650+ pages.<\/p>\n<p><em>Bishop: Poems, Prose, and Letters<\/em>\u00a0(Library of America, edited by Robert Giroux &amp; Lloyd Schwartz)<br \/>\nI bring this Elizabeth Bishop book with me everywhere I go (and it&#8217;s a hardback!).
