Wonderful news from one of our current poetry MFA’s, Aaron Caycedo-Kimura, who has three poems forthcoming this fall!\u00a0 Aaron\u00a0was a semi-finalist in the 2019\u00a0<\/span>Crab Creek Review<\/i>\u00a0Poetry Prize contest with two poems, \u201cArtificial Flavors\u201d and \u201cMemorial.\u201d\u00a0 They will be published in the Fall 2019 issue of\u00a0<\/span>Crab Creek Review<\/i>. In addition, Aaron’s\u00a0ekphrastic ghazal \u201c<\/span>Sun in an Empty Room<\/i>, 1963\u201d will be published in the Summer\/Fall 2019 issue of\u00a0<\/span>Think: A Journal of Poetry, Fiction, and Essays<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aaron had this to say about the poems:<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve written a lot about my parents since they passed away\u2014my father in 2011 and my mother in 2015. In doing so, I continue to honor them and keep their memory alive in my life. \u201cArtificial Flavors\u201d is based on a childhood memory at the salon where my mother used to get her hair done, and \u201cSun in an Empty Room, 1963\u201d (an ekphrastic ghazal) is about my last walkthrough of her empty house before I sold it. \u201cMemorial\u201d is about my father and his college friend who tried to connect with him after he died.<\/em><\/p>\n

Aaron Caycedo-Kimura <\/strong>is a poet, painter, and cartoonist. His poetry appears or is forthcoming in Poet Lore<\/em>, DMQ Review<\/em>, Crab Creek Review<\/em>, Naugatuck River Review<\/em>, Off the Coast<\/em>, Connecticut River Review<\/em>, Gravel<\/em>, Crack the Spine<\/em>, Rust + Moth<\/em>, Tule Review<\/em>, and elsewhere. He is also the author and illustrator of Text, Don\u2019t Call: An Illustrated Guide to the Introverted Life<\/em>, published by TarcherPerigee. Aaron is currently an MFA candidate in the creative writing program at Boston University.<\/p>\n
