Through a lens of geography and geology,\u00a0<span class=\"mark091o9ga0p\">Barba<\/span>\u00a0looks at time, and our human efforts \u2014 sometimes futile, sometimes hopeful, sometimes cruel \u2014 to make sense of forces much larger and much older than\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span>our <em>selves<\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: black;font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif\"><span>.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Susan says, <em>What I wanted for this book was to create a work of art in conversation with the earth. My hope now is that this book will be a portal, bringing far-flung places to you, but also beckoning you to go out (if you can, safely), to see the sky, set your feet on the ground.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The book arose from anguish and love: anguish at the climate crisis and love for this changeable, rejuvenating earth.\u00a0geode\u00a0is both a response to the crisis and a response to the beauty of the world.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Thank you so much, Susan.\u00a0 Congratulations!<\/p>\n<p>Susan Barba is the author of\u00a0<em>geode<\/em> (Black Sparrow Press, 2020) and\u00a0<em>Fair Sun <\/em>(David R.
