Jonathan Rosen

Rosen photoDr. Jonathan Rosen serves as Special Assistant to the Provost at Boston University, and is a member of the Biomedical Engineering faculty at the College of Engineering. Dr. Rosen was the founding Executive Director of the Institute for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization at the BU School of Management.  ITEC provides entrepreneurial concentrations at the undergraduate and graduate levels and supports cross-campus initiatives in innovation and entrepreneurial studies. Dr. Rosen received his PhD in Biomaterials and Bioengineering from Case Western Reserve University and his MBA in Strategic Planning from Columbia University.

Nicole Hawkes

Nicole_Hawkes_Photo[1]Nicole Hawkes is Associate Provost for Strategic Initiatives in the Office of the University Provost.  In this role, Nicole leads efforts on behalf of the Provost related to all aspects of the University’s academic mission including strategic planning and academic program development.  Among her chief responsibilities is coordination of the University’s academic program review process, that engages the input of distinguished faculty from outside Boston University to assess the quality and impact of our academic departments, schools, programs.  Prior to joining Boston University in 2011, Nicole served as Associate Provost for Academic Affairs at the University of Southern California where she served a similar role in leading the academic program review process as well as the Women in Science and Engineering program, and worked closely with the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees.   Nicole has also served as Senior Program Associate in the MacArthur Fellows Program of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, where she developed and evaluated dossiers on nominees for the MacArthur Fellowship in the diverse areas of arts, humanities, public affairs and science.  She holds a BA from Mount Holyoke College (1996), an MA from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (2000) and an MS from Boston University (2002).

Kenneth Lutchen

Dr. Kenneth R. Lutchen, is Dean of the College of Engineering and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Boston University.  He received his B.S. in Engineering Science from the University of Virginia and the M.S. and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. Dr Lutchen is one of the world’s leading biomedical engineers. He has published over 125 peer-reviewed journal articles and patented several new methods to perform mechanical ventilation.  Dean Lutchen was Chair of Biomedical Engineering from 1998-2006.  During that time the department received a $14 million dollar Leadership Award from the Whitaker Foundation and a $5 Million Translational Research Partnership Award from the Coulter Foundation.  Boston University is the only institution in the nation to have received both awards. He also conceived and attracted an NIH Ph.D. Student Training Grant in Quantitative Biology and Physiology.  During his Chairmanship in BME, the Department’s ranking in US News and World Report improved from 18th to 6th . Dr. Lutchen has been the recipient of the College of Engineering’s Professor of the Year Award and the Biomedical Engineering Professor of the Year Award — twice. Dr. Lutchen is currently the President of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).  He has been on the Board of Directors for the Biomedical Engineering Society, served on scientific advisory boards for the Whitaker Foundation, and for several bioengineering departments and colleges of engineering nationwide, and is a member of study sections at the National Institute of Health.  As Dean, Dr. Lutchen has orchestrated the creation of a new Division of Materials Science and Engineering, a new Division of Systems Engineering within the College of Engineering. He has also created new Concentration programs in Energy and Environmental Engineering and Nanotechnology.  Since becoming Dean, undergraduate freshman enrollment has increased by 50% and grant funding per faculty has increased to 18th in the nation and the College’s Graduate Ranking in US News and World Report has improved from 52nd to 39th in the Nation.

Kenneth Elmore

Kenneth Elmore is Dean of Students at Boston University, where he is responsible for campus services and programs affecting the academic, social, occupational, intellectual, cultural, and ethical development of students. The Dean of Students oversees more than 400 student organizations and assists students with a wide variety of concerns. Elmore has a deep personal interest in the legal aspects of academic, employment, and student life issues. Until recently, Elmore practiced law in Boston, first at the law firm of Peabody and Arnold, and subsequently at Morgan, Brown, and Joy. Previously, he had served as an associate director at the Boston University Office of Residence Life from 1989 to 1993 and associate director for staff and operations in that office from 1993 to 2001. He has coached youth basketball and hockey, and volunteers for several education-related nonprofit organizations and community development agencies. He earned a master’s in education from Boston University, and is a graduate of Brown University and the New England School of Law.

Sridhar Condoor

Dr. Sridhar Condoor is a professor in the aerospace and mechanical engineering department.  He is also the Program Director for the Mechanical Engineering, a KEEN fellow, a Coleman Fellow, the editor of the Journal of Engineering Entrepreneurship. Condoor teaches sustainability, product design, and entrepreneurship. His research interests are in the areas of design theory and methodology, technology entrepreneurship, and sustainability. He is spearheading Technology Entrepreneurship education at SLU. He is the Principal Investigator for the KEEN Entrepreneurship Program Development Grants to foster the spirit of innovation in all engineering students.Condoor authored several books. The titles include Innovative Conceptual Design, Engineering Statics, and Modeling with ProEngineer. He published several technical papers on topics focused on conceptual design, design principles, cognitive science as applied to design, and design education. VayuWind, a hubless wind turbine for urban environments, is one of his inventions.

Jack McCarthy

Dr. Jack McCarthy is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior in the School of Management at Boston University, where he also serves as the Director of the Executive Development Roundtable, a major consortium and research center on leadership development. His research interests are in leadership, organizational change, and global sustainability, and he teaches courses on leadership and organizational behavior in the undergraduate, MBA, international and executive programs. Additionally, he conducts leadership seminars for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program at Boston University, comprised of mid-career professionals and scholars from developing nations studying in the United States. Jack was formerly an Assistant Professor at the University of New Hampshire, where he launched and led the undergraduate business program at the university’s urban campus in Manchester, NH and was the recipient of the college-wide 2005 Teaching Excellence Award.  Having taught three summers in residence in China, he received the 2009 Faculty of the Year Award from the International MBA Cohort at Boston University. Most recently, Jack was selected to deliver the 2011 Faculty Address for the School of Management’s Convocation Ceremony for its Bachelor’s degree candidates as part of Boston University’s 138th Commencement Exercises. With over fifteen years as a financial analyst, manager, and senior executive in several large corporations prior to his career transition into academia, he draws heavily upon his real-world management and leadership experience in his teaching, consulting and research. He is a frequent speaker in professional and academic settings in the US and abroad on leadership, team dynamics and leading change. A native Bostonian, and an alumnus of the Boston Latin School, he holds a BA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, an MBA from Babson College, and a DBA in Organizational Behavior from the School of Management at Boston University.
