Seniors, get donating!

Hey Terriers,

Who here likes baseball movies? If you do, you’ve probably seen Field of Dreams, and if you have, you’re probably familiar with its famous line: “If we build it, they will come.” Now we here at BU have slightly adapted that idea, to give you seniors the chance to not only give back to the BU community that we all love, but also to get your own shot at baseball glory, FROM THE MOUND AT FENWAY PARK ITSELF.

That’s right, BU – If you Donate, you could Pitch! If the class reaches the donation goal, one random donor to the Senior Class Gift campaign will be selected to throw out a pitch at Fenway Park! It could be YOU.

Let’s check with Dean Elmore for more info:

Sounds pretty great, right BU?

I’ve got to go fill out my check right now – hope everyone has a TERRIER-ific day!

Alternative Spring Breaks!

Hey there Terriers,

In the cold of winter here in Boston, I know many of you are thinking about spring break. But before you rush to book tickets to Cabo or Florida, consider participating in the Community Service Center's Alternative Spring Breaks program.

ASB

The CSC has over 30 trips across the country (and even Puerto Rico) with amazing opportunities to volunteer in a variety of areas. To learn more information about ASB trips, be sure to check out the Information Sessions Tuesday January 24th and Wednesday January 25th! Then, be sure to register THIS Sunday, January 29th, at 8AM.

Until next time!

  • Interactive features such as a BU-BUcket list.
  • Prizes and giveaways
  • AND SO MUCH MORE

If you're not as excited as I am, there's something wrong...

BUT, Terriers, we need your help! We have a wonderful following here on BU FYI, but far too many of our classmates don't know enough about the site. Be sure to help us spread the word both on FACEBOOK and TWITTER.

Keep being you, BU, and get psyched.

WELCOME BACK, TERRIERS!!!

Did ya miss us? I bet you did. I know I missed you guys. I hope you all had a fantastic break, full of fun, family, food (which means we all probably need to hit FitRec), and bragging to your friends from home about how awesome your university is. (Personally, my break involved a LOT of those last two.)

So here we are, at the first day of another semester. Spring semester, to be exact. For me, as well as for a few of our other FYI Bloggers (like Kedzie,) it is the first day of our last ever semester of college. Where did the time go!?

The insanely rapid passage of time from my freshman year to now was on my mind today as I helped our favorite Dean of Students rearrange some of the books on the bookcases of his newly revamped office. Then I found something that made me feel a little better about still having one semester left as a student here at BU:

Check out this hilariously dated Student Residence Manual!

Yes, Terriers, you read that correctly - 1989-1990 academic year.

Yes, Terriers, you read that correctly - 1989-1990 academic year.

This thing is older than I am! (Further proof that Dean Elmore never throws anything out...). This thing is pre-StuVis, pre-Agganis Arena, pre-Fit Rec, and pre-A Lot Of Other Stuff, I'm Sure.

Let's take a walk down a Memory version of Comm Ave, shall we, Terriers?

Jugglers on Marsh

Jugglers on Marsh

In the late 80's/early 90's, non-hipsters wore short-shorts like the ones pictured here completely UN-ironically. Oh, how times have changed.

Speaking of changing times, look what we had back in the day...

The Terriers take the field...

The Terriers take the field...

Way back when, we didn't just have the hockey team to cheer for - there was a football team, too! These days, we've been undefeated since...oh, say...1997.

Now we come to things that have changed for the worse, in my humble (satirical) opinion:

The BUS!

The BUS!

DEAR BOSTON UNIVERSITY, WHY DO WE NOT STILL HAVE AWESOME DOUBLE-DECKER BUSES ROVING UP AND DOWN COMM AVE?! It would certainly make it a lot easier to nab a seat at the Marsh Plaza stop...plus, how fun would it be to ride in one?

And finally, I'd like to close this post with a cool throwback photo of someone we all know and love...let's see if y'all recognize him.

Look at that head of hair!

Look at that head of hair!

If you guessed our Dean of Students, you are 100% correct. Looks like he's always been as awesome and involved with BU students as he is today. (I'm also sure he won't fire me for finding this photo and putting it online...right, Dean Elmore? RIGHT?!)

Anyway, I thought you would all enjoy a little peek into the past as our futures all loom ahead of us. Hope everyone's classes are going swimmingly (especially if anyone is taking a swimming class!) and that you're all staying warm out there!

Let's have a TERRIER-ific semester, guys! (Winter break has done nothing to dissuade my love of cheesy puns.)

xoxo,

Julia

Hey there, Terriers!

TOMORROW'S THE LAST DAY OF FINALS! WOO! (lol I'm blogging this from home...)

Hope you're all surviving. But, if you're like me, you're sick of this lack of snow. Yeah, the stress of exams seems to suck all the happiness out of the holiday season, but usually a bit of snow cheers me up. So... where is it!?

Have no fear. Head over to GOOGLE.COM and type in "Let it snow" and let the magic unfold. Your screen will begin to cover with snow and frost until everything blurs over. You can wipe the snow away by clicking your mouse (or by clicking "defrost" in the corner, but that's a lot less cool).

So yeah. Just when you thought you had dried out all your procrastination resources... BOOM.

Keep being you, BU, and enjoy the digital flurry.

Terriers,

I'm sure you know about the super-awesome 115 Days Until Graduation Party coming up in January for the Class of 2012, and I know you've seen their LipDub teaser for the event, right?

But as 2011 winds to a close, let's reflect on some awesome LipDubs from years past. Here are two famous BU LipDubs from 2009 and 2010, for your viewing procrastination pleasure.

Wait a minute- did you know even SMG did a video...?

Happy Holidays, Terriers!

Until next year,

Hey Terriers –

I’m sure a lot of you are in Mugar, and haven’t stepped foot outside in a few days, but I just thought you all should know that there is a 20% CHANCE THAT IT WILL SNOW TOMORROW NIGHT.

YES! YES! YES! Sledding, and snowmen, and snowballs...all within my grasp...

YES! YES! YES! Sledding, and snowmen, and snowballs...all within my grasp...

If you’re like me, you’ve been bemoaning the lack of snow (and the accompanying festive holiday look it brings) for a few weeks now. If you’re not like me, you’re thinking I’m nuts  and a winter-loving masochist.  (That might be sort of true.)

I know it’s not much but hey! It’s the highest percent chance of snow we’ve had since….well, since Halloween.

Keep your heads up, Terriers, keep studying, and watch out for those flakes!!!

Hey Terriers!

Good news for the ladies (or guys, who are very, very into their feminine side)!

TONIGHT Aerie stores are holding a Merry Aerie Gifting Party from 6-9 p.m. You'll receive a ridiculous 40% off your entire purchase and a free tote to carry around all those gifts (self-gifting is completely acceptable).

Hey again, Terriers!

SmileYourCoffeeLovesYouGREAT NEWS. If you have a caffeine addiction like me, and you're camped out in the GSU (also like me) there is a ton of free coffee up on the second floor. I basically live in the Ziskind Lounge (Club Z...?) so I was delighted to see that the coffee has been set up for study period and will be here all week!

I'm lovin' it.

And I'm quite hyper.

Keep being you, BU, and GET ON YOUR STUDY GRIND.
