The NBA Lockout and Why I Don’t Care

As most of you have probably noticed by now, the NBA has yet to reach an agreement to end the lockout, and at this point, it looks as if there will be no NBA season.

My opinion? WHO CARES.

As a professional athlete, you are being paid millions of dollars to do what you love and be (usually) adored by thousands of fans. You are a hero to little boys and girls across the world who still have hope in their dreams. With the recent activity during the lockout, the players have basically taken to exploiting themselves to any and every money-making avenue.

And this is now what kids get to look up to. Players who have left wives for Flavor of Love contestants (I’m looking at you, Shaq). Players who are refusing to do their “job” because they want another million or two. You know, Prada ain’t cheap folks. I, for one, do not want to continue to even semi-support any NBA “professional” who is teaching toddlers to barter with parents.  “No cookie until I take a bath? Watch how dirty I can get, Mommy Dearest.”

I understand a large group of fans live for the sports season of their choice; for their chance to yell at the TV like the players can hear them. And for these people, the lockout is sad. But for the rest of the world, don’t waste your time caring more than a flying flock of sheep for “heroes” who are clearly not doing it for the game, nor for the fans.

And it’s winter people. Tell me which you would rather stare at on a big screen at T’s?

Bobcats Celtics Basketball

Hm? That's what I thought.

Go B’s!

PS. I don’t mean to offend anyone with the blog, nor am I even pretending to know the COMPLETE details of the NBA situation.

The Amazing Race

Looking for a fun way to maybe make some money with your friends and see the city of Boston? Check out the Student Activities Office's Amazing Race, taking place on Saturday, December 3, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Groups of 5 to 8 students will travel throughout the city of Boston, "participating in different tasks and puzzles, testing their wit, teamwork, and stamina to make it through each round and win the grand prize."

It's a 90s themed event so if you and your teammates are so inclined to do so,   make team uniforms. There just may be a prize for the best dressed team!

The grand prize is $1500 dollars for the team OR $3000 for a registered student group. Your team will also win the chance to be The Amazing Race: BU Edition champions!

The first 30 teams to get a team registration sheet in, along with waivers for each member will be qualified. Teams will be announced after November 18th.

Note: All teams will meet at 8:00AM at the Sargent Activities Center at 1 University Road for check-in. Teams will then receive their first clue and start their adventures in downtown Boston. The event will end around 3PM.

Questions? You can call the SAO office 617-353-3635 or come in to the Student Activities Office at 1 University Road.

Be sure to check it out, BU!

BU Big Brother?

Hey Emma, was that you I saw wearing a blue rain coat? And Kelsey... you shouldn't open your umbrella inside like that. It's bad luck!

What is Kedzie rambling about, you ask? BU's LIVESTREAM of the GSU LINK!

123

Yeah, that's right. You might not have known, but on the Alumni Association's website there are webcams of a few places on campus that allow people to see what's going on around BU.

So, remember that time you thought you were alone in the Link and you fell flat on your face? We all saw. Check out all the webcams on campus by CLICKING HERE!

Keep being you, BU, and keep an eye out for Big Brother...

Terriers,

The time has come. BU needs your help.

The Dear Abbeys, our incredibly-talented all-male a capella group (who are also not too bad on the eyes, if you know what I'm saying) are nominated to win the ZipCar Students With Drive Challenge. If they win, the Dear Abbeys recieve $5,500 for their student group. But more importantly, if the Dear Abbeys win, Boston University recieves $10,000 to our general scholarship fund.

So, terriers. This is where you come in. Visit the Students With Drive challenge, vote for the Dear Abbeys, and let's show those other school's why we're the best.

Competitively yours,
Emma

p.s. Beantown Challenge, round two anyone...? Just kidding.

Men Being Manly – Coming To A (Jacob Sleeper) Auditorium Near You!

Hey there Terriers! Sorry about my absence last week - I am sure you all missed me terribly. I spent the week sick in bed, sniffling miserably.

But do you want to know one thing that kept me slightly cheered throughout my illness? (Besides the multiple cups of tea that my sweet roommates kept bringing me.) Why, dear Terriers, it was the thought of the MEN BEING MANLY concert that's taking place THIS SATURDAY EVENING!

Not Men Being Manly I...Not II...but III (!!!) Triple the excitement!

Not Men Being Manly I...Not II...but III (!!!) Triple the excitement!

For the third year, BU's own Dear Abbeys are joining forces with the Tufts Beelzebubs to put on an awesome concert! I don't know if any of you were there last year, but they rocked the JSA to the building's foundations! You should all be sure to check it out.

Here's the Facebook Event, for those of you who want more info. This is something you don't want to miss!

I'm not signing off with an X this time, BU, because I don't want to get anyone sick, just in case I'm still contagious.

Cheers!

Think You Know BU?

Hey Terriers,

Recently, a new Boston-based startup company called Smarterer launched campus specific tests to see just how "smart" you are about your school. Think you know all about Boston University?

Give it your best shot and see if you can walk the walk.
