{"id":2546,"date":"2016-12-22T12:49:23","date_gmt":"2016-12-22T17:49:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/ellisrp\/?p=2546"},"modified":"2016-12-22T12:54:17","modified_gmt":"2016-12-22T17:54:17","slug":"the-ellis-huber-christmas-poem-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/ellisrp\/2016\/12\/the-ellis-huber-christmas-poem-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"The Ellis-Huber Christmas Poem 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Raven\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Ellis-Huber Christmas Poem 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once upon a year so dreary, politics so wild and weary,<br \/>\nArguments so quaint and curious, unfamiliar use of lore\u2014<br \/>\nWhile I nodded, sometimes napping, suddenly there came a yapping,<br \/>\nAs of candidates gently snapping, snapping as if t\u2019were a war.<br \/>\n\u201c\u2019Tis only a primary,\u201d I muttered, \u201cyapping I have heard before\u2014<br \/>\nOnly this and nothing more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the yapping became more noisy, as the prospects grew less rosy<br \/>\nScared me\u2014filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;<br \/>\nSo that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating<br \/>\n\u201c\u2019Tis only a primary entreating entrance at the White House door\u2014<br \/>\nSome strange visitor entreating entrance at the mansion door;\u2014<br \/>\nThis it is and nothing more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Presently concern grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,<br \/>\nWords like \u201cSir\u201d and \u201cMadam\u201d, scarce-used civil words appeared no more;<br \/>\nSoon the facts no longer mattered as emotions became more shattered,<br \/>\nSoon opinions grew more scattered, chattered just outside my door,<br \/>\nNot quite sure that I had heard it\u2014here I opened wide the door;\u2014<br \/>\nDarkness there and nothing more.<\/p>\n<p>Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak September;<br \/>\nAnd each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.<br \/>\nEagerly I tried to ignore it, even though I still deplored it<br \/>\nAll my thoughts were filled with sorrow\u2014sorrow for the lost true core\u2014<br \/>\nCame the thought so sad and evil, worse time since the Wizard war\u2014<br \/>\nTrump is our Lord Voldemort.<\/p>\n<p>November came as we were fearing, long we stood there wondering, tearing,<br \/>\nWishing undone, dreaming dreams no liberal dared to dream before;<br \/>\nBut the silence was unbroken, and the election gave no token,<br \/>\nAnd the words e\u2019er spoken were whispered words, \u201cLord Voldemort?\u201d<br \/>\nThis I whispered, and an echo murmured back, \u201cLord Voldemort.\u201d\u2014<br \/>\nMerely this and nothing more.<\/p>\n<p>Now December, feeling bitter, as the trees begin to glitter,<br \/>\nSoon again I hear a twitter somewhat louder than before.<br \/>\n\u201cSurely,\u201d said I, \u201csurely that is something at my window lattice;<br \/>\nLet me see, then, what the threat is, and this mystery explore\u2014<br \/>\nI let my mind stop just a moment and this mystery explore;\u2014<br \/>\n\u2019Tis only Santa, nothing more!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Santa saved us from our ruing, distracted us from all our stewing<br \/>\nChristmas tree our nightly viewing, \u2018minding us of days of yore;<br \/>\nNow we pray for all united, keeping spirits undivided;<br \/>\nWishing peace and love re-invited, mistletoe above your door\u2014<br \/>\nChristmas prayers we do implore for elves and wizards, Dumbledore\u2014<br \/>\nAnd Harry Potter, ever more!<\/p>\n<p>(c) 2016 Randall P Ellis<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Raven\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Ellis-Huber Christmas Poem 2016 Once upon a year so dreary, politics so wild and weary, Arguments so quaint and curious, unfamiliar use of lore\u2014 While I nodded, sometimes napping, suddenly there came a yapping, As of candidates gently snapping, snapping as if t\u2019were a war. \u201c\u2019Tis only a primary,\u201d I muttered, &hellip;
