{"id":2778,"date":"2017-05-19T15:42:08","date_gmt":"2017-05-19T19:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/ellisrp\/?p=2778"},"modified":"2017-05-19T15:42:25","modified_gmt":"2017-05-19T19:42:25","slug":"congratulations-to-bus-class-of-2017-economics-graduates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/ellisrp\/2017\/05\/congratulations-to-bus-class-of-2017-economics-graduates\/","title":{"rendered":"Congratulations to BU\u2019s Class of 2017 Economics graduates!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Please celebrate the students who earned <strong>556 degrees in Economics<\/strong> at Commencement this May!<\/p>\n<p>This year the program honors:<\/p>\n<p>14 Ph.D. recipients<\/p>\n<p>215 Master\u2019s degree recipients (MA, MAPE, MAEP, MAGDE MA\/MBA, BA\/MA)<\/p>\n<p>327 BA recipients (including BA\/MA)<\/p>\n<p>This total of 556 degrees is up from 498\u00a0 (12%) since 2016.<\/p>\n<p>These numbers may undercount the total for the year since they may exclude some students who graduated in January.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017 there were 14 PhDs, 215 Master&#8217;s degree recipients, and 327 BA recipients<\/p>\n<p>In 2016 there were 22 PhDs, 203 Master&#8217;s degree recipients, and 273 BA recipients<\/p>\n<p>In 2015 there were 22 PhDs, 155 Master\u2019s degree recipients, and 305 BA recipients.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014 there were 17 PhDs, 207 Master\u2019s degree recipients, and 256 BA recipients.<\/p>\n<p>Altogether 13 Ph.D. students obtained jobs this year (versus 24 last year).<\/p>\n<p>To see the Ph.D. placements visit the web site linked here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/econ\/gradprgms\/phd\/placements\/\">http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/econ\/gradprgms\/phd\/placements\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The department\u2019s\u00a0 website now lists 39 regular faculty (up one from last year) with titles of assistant, associate or full professors, a number which is one below the number of professors in 2012 (five years ago) listed on the commencement programs. Here are the recent counts of faculty.<\/p>\n<p>2017: 39 tenured or tenure-track faculty, of which 3 are women (8%); 12 non-TT faculty, of which 3 are women (25%); 51 total faculty, of which 6 are women (12%)<\/p>\n<p>2016: 38 tenured or tenure-track faculty, of which 5 are women (8%); \u00a07 non-TT faculty, of which 1 are women (14%); 47 total faculty, of which 6 are women (12%)<\/p>\n<p>2015: 40 tenured or tenure-track faculty, of which 5 are women (12%); 7 non-TT faculty, of which 2 are women (29%); 47 total faculty, of which 7 are women (15%)<\/p>\n<p>2014: 41 tenured or tenure-track faculty, of which 6 are women (15%); 4 non-TT faculty, of which 1 is a woman (25%); 45 total faculty, of which 7 are women (16%)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/econ\/faculty-staff\/faculty-profiles\/\">http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/econ\/faculty-staff\/faculty-profiles\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to all!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Please celebrate the students who earned 556 degrees in Economics at Commencement this May!
