{"id":53,"date":"2024-11-06T16:14:53","date_gmt":"2024-11-06T21:14:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/elovett\/?page_id=53"},"modified":"2024-11-06T17:33:07","modified_gmt":"2024-11-06T22:33:07","slug":"about-me-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/elovett\/","title":{"rendered":"About Me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/elovett\/files\/2024\/11\/headshot2023.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/elovett\/files\/2024\/11\/headshot2023.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"266\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-48\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m Emma, a Ph.D. candidate in the Astronomy Department at Boston University.\u00a0 I graduated from UMass Amherst in 2021 with a B.S. in Astrophysics &amp; Physics, discovered my passion for interdisciplinary research, and ate a lot of good food.\u00a0 Here at BU, I continue my research in space physics while making astronomy more accessible to underprivileged students.<\/p>\n<p>I work with <a href=\"https:\/\/carlschmidt.science\/\">Prof. Carl Schmidt<\/a> to research alkalis in Europa\u2019s atmosphere.\u00a0 I use ground-based spectroscopy to measure sodium and potassium at the Galilean moon&#8211; a moon that harbors a subsurface ocean with unknown salinity.
