{"id":111,"date":"2010-07-27T10:17:22","date_gmt":"2010-07-27T15:17:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/emenegon\/?page_id=111"},"modified":"2020-05-25T20:46:29","modified_gmt":"2020-05-26T00:46:29","slug":"court-workgroup","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/emenegon\/court-workgroup\/","title":{"rendered":"Leisure\/Court Culture\/Travel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As part of\u00a0 the broader <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/our-research\/research-magazine\/2010-toc\/features\/all-about-asia\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Leisure and Social Change Across Asia&#8221;<\/a> project funded by the BU Humanities Foundation (see final <a href=\"https:\/\/heiup.uni-heidelberg.de\/catalog\/book\/550?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\">volume<\/a>, 2019), the <strong>Eurasian\u00a0 Court Culture Workgroup<\/strong> focused on the members&#8217; research and methodological concerns in the study of court cultures in Eurasia from a\u00a0 comparative perspective (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/asian\/2011\/04\/22\/leisure-project-spring-2011-asian-pre-modern-court-cultures-and-visuality\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spring 2011 activities<\/a>). The\u00a0group later participated in\u00a0the collaborative venture at Boston University, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/premodern\/\" target=\"_blank\">Comparative Studies of the Premodern World Initiative<\/a>. \u00a0Currently some of its founding members (Professors Sharma and Menegon) participate in the BU Travel Literature Reading Group (see the 2015 workshop <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/asian\/2015\/05\/07\/events-workshop-illusion-and-disillusionment-travel-writers-in-the-modern-age\/\" title=\"Travel Workshop 2015\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>, and the resulting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hup.harvard.edu\/catalog.php?isbn=9780674984479\" target=\"_blank\">volume<\/a>\u00a0in 2018).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Workgroup founding members and interests:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Gina Cogan (formerly Assistant Prof., BU, Dept. of Religion): The Japanese imperial court and religion in the early modern period<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Emine Fetvaci (Associate Prof., BU, Dept. of Art History):\u00a0 Art, history writing, and politics at the Ottoman court<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Eugenio Menegon (Associate Prof., BU, Dept. of History): Europeans at the Qing court<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Sunil Sharma (Professor, BU, Dept. of Modern Langs. and Comp.
