The Boston University Baseball team is glad to welcome Eric Nelsen as the next Head Coach of the team.<\/p>\n
In the spring of 2012, Nelsen was the Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach at Blackstone Valley Technical Vocational High School. He offered personal evaluations regarding recruits and roster development. The\u00a02012 Valley\u00a0Tech Beavers\u00a0went on to have a very successful season; closing out the\u00a0spring with an overall record of 19-5.\u00a0A regular\u00a0season record of\u00a016-4 was good enough to\u00a0gain a first round bye come districts, and won the State Vocational Tournament, recognizing the program as the #1 Vocational School in the state. The Beavers reached the third round of the district tournament where they were knocked off by Auburn High School in 11 innings. Six players were named conference all-stars and had the conference MVP.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was difficult for me to walk away from (Blackstone Valley Tech) but I\u2019m confident I made the right decision. I\u2019m humbled to be coaching here at BU and I am excited to implement what I\u2019ve learned about the game of baseball at a more competitive level. I wish the Beavers the best of luck in 2013 and I want to thank (head coach) Anthony (Leonelli) for giving me the opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n
After missing his Sophomore year due to a hurt shoulder, Nelsen hit over .400, 50RBI\u2019s, and 5HR\u2019s over his Junior and Senior seasons for Nipmuc Regional High School in Upton, MA. He was named a Dual Valley Conference All-Star in both his Junior and Senior seasons. Nelsen committed to Assumption College, but again in his Freshman year required more shoulder reconstructive surgery and was never able to regain his top form that had let him be heavily recruited in high school. He graduated with a BA from Assumption College in 2012 majoring in both Biology and Psychology. He currently works as a Full time employee at Genzyme Corporation in Framingham, MA. He continues to play baseball for personal enjoyment during the summer months including a Men\u2019s league team out of Blackstone, MA.<\/p>\n
