was until last week&#8230;Don&#8217;t get me started on &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Food_porn\" title=\"foodporn\" target=\"_blank\">foodporn<\/a>!&#8221;&#8230;Who coined that one?&#8230;My computer doesn&#8217;t even recognize it as a word!&#8230;But luckily I can still teach a few things every now and then that these very same students will be able to use as they enter the workforce as first time sports journalists&#8230;. \u00a0(When that&#8217;s not the case, you&#8217;ll find me elsewhere)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s spring and another class is getting ready to graduate&#8230;And they&#8217;re scared&#8230;Four years has gone by way too quickly and the reality is here&#8230;I need a job&#8230;Well, you&#8217;re in luck&#8230;Because sports jobs are there for the taking and anyone who tells you otherwise simply doesn&#8217;t understand the landscape&#8230;Maybe not in Boston and New York and Los Angeles but as we&#8217;ve hammered away, Jackson, MS and Tyler, TX are the price you have to be willing to pay&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>News Director <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ReddingWriting\" title=\"mike redding\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Redding<\/a> of WCSH TV in Portland, Maine put it this way, &#8220;Sports will always have a rabid fan base, always. \u00a0The sports industry will always exist so there will be jobs for you. \u00a0You&#8217;re in a really good field that will always exist.&#8221;&#8230; \u00a0What more do you want to hear?&#8230;ESPN isn&#8217;t coming to Elkhart, Indiana to cover sports&#8230;But WSVJ TV is and that won&#8217;t ever change&#8230;You might be a &#8220;one man\/woman band&#8221; but those jobs will always exist&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And if that doesn&#8217;t convince you, listen to Boston Herald Editor<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/leahysean\" title=\"sean leahy\" target=\"_blank\"> Sean Leahy<\/a> wax poetic about your readiness&#8230;&#8221;Most editors will glance at it (video) and not really absorb it but they&#8217;ll say he\/she does video. \u00a0So yeah, I want to see that. \u00a0I want to see multimedia skills. \u00a0I want to see(hear) you&#8217;re good on the radio, \u00a0good on TV. \u00a0We need people who can do more things and do them well.&#8221; \u00a0Talented people will always find a place&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Which bring us to the issue of appearance&#8230;Television is notorious for hiring only good looking, spray tanned, coiffed, constantly smiling Barbies and Kens&#8230;Maybe, not so much anymore however, says Redding. \u00a0&#8220;I want people to be critical thinkers. \u00a0I don&#8217;t need beauty queens or movie stars. \u00a0You don&#8217;t want people to get lost in what you look like because they&#8217;re not listening to what you are telling them. \u00a0 We&#8217;re supposed to look like regular humans and comb our hair and know how to put on TV makeup sure. \u00a0Sports is the the place that best accomplishes that. \u00a0Sports reporters in every television station are the best (on) camera people we have. \u00a0News people are boring and stale and formulaic. \u00a0And you just want to stab them in the eyeball!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Reading that ought to get you &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nepatriotslife.com\/2014\/02\/pumped-and-jacked-revisiting-pete.html\" title=\"pumped and jacked\" target=\"_blank\">pumped and jacked<\/a>&#8220;&#8230;
