Research

An important priority for the Section of Hematology-Oncology is to provide a mentored clinical or laboratory research experience forĀ  trainees. Reasons for this include:

1. A research experience is required by the ACGME.

2. Research is an integral part of a career in academic medicine, and as an academic medical center, training the next generation of academic hematologists and oncologists is one of our missions.

3. In Heme-Onc, participation in clinical trials is essential to provide access for patient to cutting edge therapies, and laboratory research is the source of such new therapies.

4. Research training provides critical thinking and statistical skills that aids in clinical decision-making.

Thus, training in research is an integral part of the mission of the Section, of equal priority to training in clinical Hematology-Oncology.
