{"id":269,"date":"2013-11-15T21:08:44","date_gmt":"2013-11-16T01:08:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/hoochie\/?p=269"},"modified":"2017-10-31T21:09:32","modified_gmt":"2017-11-01T01:09:32","slug":"women-at-harvard-law-an-exhibition-and-an-anecdote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/hoochie\/2013\/11\/15\/women-at-harvard-law-an-exhibition-and-an-anecdote\/","title":{"rendered":"Women at Harvard Law: an exhibition, and an anecdote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.harvard.edu\/library\/\">Harvard Law School Library<\/a> has just announced their newest exhibit, titled \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.harvard.edu\/library\/special\/exhibitions\/women-at-hls.html\">Women at HLS: 60 Years of Transformation<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From the announcement:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Since women were first admitted to HLS in 1950, they have transformed the Law School, the legal profession, and public life. A special library exhibit, Women at HLS \u2014 coinciding with the upcoming Celebration 60 Reunion of women at Harvard Law School \u2014 explores themes such as enrollment, campus life, and the impact of student organizations such as the Women\u2019s Law Association (WLA). It draws on Historical &amp; Special Collections\u2019 Student Photographs collection and the recently processed Red Set Ephemera collection. Jane Kelly and Margaret Peachy curated Women at HLS, which will be on view in the Caspersen Room, Langdell Hall, Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM through December 13, 2013.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>All members of the public are invited to visit the exhibition in Cambridge.<\/p>\n<p>* * *<\/p>\n<p>While on the topic of female graduates from Harvard Law, file this one under \u201cYou\u2019ve Come A Long Way, Baby\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mass.gov\/courts\/appealscourt\/justices\/dreben.html\">Raya Dreben<\/a> was among the earliest of the women to graduate from Harvard Law School. She had a distinguished career, culminating in her appointment to the Massachusetts Appeals Court. At one point she was hired by the very traditional but excellent law firm of Palmer &amp; Dodge (now Edwards, Wildman, Palmer).<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the thing: the firm insisted that she have her own letterhead.
