Well, she\u2019s \u201cgot a dream inside\u201d \u2014 a dream \u201cto look better each day, every day,\u201d and \u201cit\u2019s good when you can make your dream come true.\u201d To that end, she\u2019s just completed her eighth breast augmentation surgery, and now carries\u00a0two record-breaking, seam-busting liters of boob goo in each exaggerated mammary.<\/p>\n<p>How readily her case demands to be explained by the simples<img class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/hoochiewoman.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/05\/boobs.jpg?w=128\" alt=\"boobs\" width=\"128\" \/>t explanation: a conspiracy between <strong>superficial media culture<\/strong> (whose distortions of the healthy female form pollute even the youngest minds)\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>unscrupulous plastic surgeons<\/strong>(ever ready to ignore the Hippocratic oath in favor of\u00a0that more fitting Greek icon, Pluto, captain of wealth and death). Whatever reasons led her to first consider chest enhancement, her motivations since have been corrupted, co-opted, by a self-image disorder. However, instead of\u00a0working through\u00a0the moral and medical\u00a0background of Hershey\u2019s situation, let\u2019s instead look at the\u00a0responses to her situation left by\u00a0Internet users at two different but predictably similiar articles:\u00a0one from <a title=\"ABC News\" href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Health\/PainManagement\/story?id=4823025&amp;page=1\">ABC News<\/a>\u00a0and the other from the Australian paper <em><a title=\"The Daily Telegraph\" href=\"http:\/\/www.news.com.au\/dailytelegraph\/comments\/0,22058,23664143-5014717,00.html\">The Daily Telegraph<\/a>. <\/em>First, the comments left by the largely American readers of ABC\u2019s hard-hitting news piece:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cNatural is better. Scientific devices cannot make a woman more attractive. A romantic figure is defined, sleek, and smooth.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cNatural of any size are great. \ud83d\ude09 Certainly if they\u2019re too large a woman should consider a reduction if they\u2019re affecting her health.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI love how this article brings out the comments from all of the large breasted readers, \u201cI have a 36 H naturally, I am naturally a 44 DD, my size G breasts, a natural 44 DDD, and I\u2019m a 34 G\u201d. I love it. How do I meet you women!?!?! I love large breasted women!!!\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI don\u2019t care to see the freak show\u2019s implant canisters, but the stock photo for this story caused me to click \ud83d\ude42 niiiice\u201d [This photo is pictured above -Eds.]<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI would rather see a fine looking set of long legs.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI am a male who loves breasts of any size but I don\u2019t advocate implants and recommend that women who are too large get reductions. They should not ruin your health. All of them are fabulous in my book\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cIf that is her in this picture then why change them. They are very nice already.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What did Australian readers have to say?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cDoes being fake, false and fraudulent make her a \u201creal\u201d woman?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWell, you\u2019ve given her her 5mins of fame. Maybe that\u2019s what she wanted. Maybe the best help that we can give her is to not report it.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cRidiculous. What makes her think they look better? Most people would laugh and stare, not think they look good.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWhat will she do and how will she cope in another 10 years or so, when her breasts flatten out and droop down to her knees ? Or maybe she doesn\u2019t have the brains to see that far ahead?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWhy would a healthy young woman push her limits on her health by enlarging her breasts to such a size. Its ugly and just plain stupid!\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWell she will get into the limelight with no talent . She will need steel supports on wheels to transports these puppies\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cmy natural E\u2019s are plenty big enough and give me enough back pain. i couldn\u2019t imagine having to drag something that size around \u2013 i could also think of better things to spend my money on! it is hard enough to buy a pretty E cup bra let alone FFF! what a fool!\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Don\u2019t\u00a0trust my editorial selection \u2014\u00a0follow the links above, go to the sites yourselves, and tell me if you agree with the characterization I\u2019ve indicated here, that\u00a0American readers are\u00a0grotesquely pro-tit, showing little regard for the person behind the flesh, while Australians show a laudable skepticism towards both\u00a0her decision to Go Big, and the media\u2019s decision to devote attention to the topic.\u00a0None of this is sufficient data from which\u00a0extrapolate sweeping cultural generalizations. Instead, I\u2019ll just close out the discussion with two observations.<\/p>\n<p>One:\u00a0it is better to be silent and not leave online comments, and let people <em>wonder<\/em>if you are\u00a0a boob, than to leave thoughtless, misogynistic comments that <em>prove<\/em> it.<\/p>\n<p>Two: while the foundational principle of liberal society is the freedom to do with our bodies what we please, regardless of how the exercise thereof may displease, discomfort, or disgust our neighbors,\u00a0Sheyla Hershey is not actually exercising her freedom with this surgical obsession. No \u2014 she is\u00a0powerless, clearly, to resist the compulsion to her enlarge her breast size, even so far\u00a0past the point of safety. Compelled by what? By psychological and societal factors, in the absence of which, she\u00a0certainly would\u00a0make different decisions regarding the body\u00a0it is her right to control.\u00a0\u00a0This powerlessness, this debasement, is what we need to keep in mind as we consider her situation, not whether she is more attractive with or without the sacs of silicone beneath the overstretched tissues of her chest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sheyla Hershey believes bigger breasts will reveal her inner beauty, just as a bigger telescope reveals deeper secrets of the cosmos.\u00a0What drives her to pump more and more silicone into her chest?
