Earlier in 2021, <a href=\"http:\/\/dbgroup.ncsu.edu\/?page_id=29\">Rada Chirkova<\/a>, the SIGMOD Record Editor-in-Chief who has assembled <a href=\"https:\/\/sigmodrecord.org\/editors\/\">an excellent &#8220;cast&#8221; of associated editors<\/a>, reached out to discuss the creation of a new column to discuss hot topics (about all sorts of thought-provoking ideas from the DB community). After a short debate on the name of the new column, we converged to &#8220;DBrainstorming&#8221; and we started to solicit the first contributions. In 2021, SIGMOD Record has hosted three instances of the column, in the <a href=\"https:\/\/sigmodrecord.org\/publications\/sigmodRecord\/2106\/pdfs\/06_DBrainstorming_Aghanassoulis.pdf\">June (on software\/hardware co-design)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/sigmodrecord.org\/publications\/sigmodRecord\/2109\/pdfs\/06_Dbrainstorming_Trummer.pdf\">September (on tuning using NLP)<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/sigmodrecord.org\/publications\/sigmodRecord\/2112\/pdfs\/08_Dbrainstorming_Arulraj.pdf\">December (on video analytics)<\/a> issues.<\/p>\n<p>The column aims to host more contributions with thought-provoking ideas, exciting new research directions, or radically new approaches we should be taking in the DB community.
