He was one of the first to review my work on Strauss, inserting a paragraph in one of \u00a0the regular reviews he contributed to major German newspapers. \u00a0The range of his interests and the variety of colleagues who were connected to this brilliant man can be seen from the table of contents of a <a title=\"de Gruyter memorial volume for FN\" href=\"http:\/\/www.degruyter.de\/cont\/fb\/ph\/detailEn.cfm?isbn=978-3-11-024754-1\" target=\"_blank\">memorial volume<\/a> in his honor, recently published by Georges Tamer (a former student of Niew\u00f6hner&#8217;s and a remarkable scholar in his own right) and Siegfried Schmidt-Biggemann, one of the most eminent historians of the European Enlightenment today. Recently I heard that there have been indications that Niew\u00f6hner may have\u00a0used his access to various archives to\u00a0walk away with\u00a0manuscripts and sell them.
