{"id":1027,"date":"2021-03-24T22:41:12","date_gmt":"2021-03-25T02:41:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/nespa\/?page_id=1027"},"modified":"2021-03-24T22:42:06","modified_gmt":"2021-03-25T02:42:06","slug":"2021-summer-workshop-for-advisers","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bu.edu\/nespa\/2021-summer-workshop-for-advisers\/","title":{"rendered":"2021 Summer Workshop for Advisers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The New England Scholastic Press Association invites you to a workshop online Monday June 21-Friday, June 25.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Advise a Scholastic News Publication<\/h2>\n<p>Sessions will include how to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>keep a journalistic balance<\/li>\n<li>teach the staff to cover the school and its community<\/li>\n<li>teach the staff to write and edit news, features, sports and opinion along with maintaining a lively forum for student opinion<\/li>\n<li>maintain a good relationship with the principal, faculty and parents<\/li>\n<li>use special pages, special sections and spreads as training vehicles<\/li>\n<li>plan, set goals and schedule copy flow for print and online<\/li>\n<li>manage the business side<\/li>\n<li>critique the publication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to a variety of lab assignments, participants will present critiques and complete curriculum projects. There will be lectures, discussions and lab work.<\/p>\n<p>Sessions will be from 9-10:30.<\/p>\n<p>Participants should send in news publications students have produced during the 2020-2021 academic year.<\/p>\n<p>The fee is $200.
