Ivan Korn, composer and resident choreographer at the North Shore Civic Ballet in Marblehead, discusses his passion for music and dance on March 25, after finishing his weekly Saturday rehearsal.

‘It’s a creative activity.  It’s more about creation,’ said Ivan Korn, on the connection between music and choreography. 

He explained that when he finds the right music that fits the dance narrative then ‘both things come together.’

Discussing the type of dancer he likes to work with, Ivan’s eyes gazed downward in thought as he said, ‘it’s mostly people who are intense with their emotions, more than technical.’

In this short film, ‘The Rehearsal,’ Ivan is seen working closely with North Shore Civic Ballet dancers, Mia Chung, dressed in black and Mollie Fredericksen, dressed in blue.

Ivan Korn is a native of Santiago Chile and a resident of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
