Communication with Students<\/h3>\n

Some\u00a0departments practice\u00a0different modes of communicating with their students. The following is a list of ideas for communication tips and methods.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Some departments communicate with their undergraduate students by creating monthly or weekly newsletters<\/strong> with programs such as <\/span>Canva<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Other departments email<\/strong> out weekly updates to their students.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Another mode of communication for undergraduate administrators would be using social media platforms<\/strong> such as a Facebook Page or Instagram, or Twitter, to update their students.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Another tip for building community\u00a0includes\u00a0creating a \u201cStudent Spotlight,\u201d<\/strong> where they highlight individual students and their achievements each month.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Student Groups<\/h3>\n
      \n
    1. Mentorship programs<\/strong> within specific departments are a helpful way to build a happy and supportive community. For example, the Physics Department has a P<\/strong>eeR<\/strong>s for I<\/strong>ncoming S<\/strong>tudent M<\/strong>entorship (PRISM) model<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Transfer Peer Mentoring Group<\/strong> – <\/span>Transition to BU <\/span><\/i>(<\/span>TTBU<\/i><\/b>): this is an University-Wide Student Peer Mentor Program for transfer students can attend community events and support transfer students. To\u00a0learn more about TTBU, you can visit their Facebook page<\/a>\u00a0or the Undergraduate Advising website.<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Departmental student groups<\/strong> are academic\u00a0societies that help promote the field of study. For example, BU Physics has a group called Photon<\/a>, Society of Physics Students BU chapter.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      First-Year Experience<\/h3>\n

      The First-Year Experience (FYE)<\/strong> by the College of Arts and Sciences\u2019 Office of Student Academic Life<\/a> is a great way for new undergraduates (first-years and transfer students) to intellectually and\u00a0socially\u00a0<\/span>adjust to the community of BU. It is a great idea to refer students to their website, and also to check it frequently with updates on programming, as well as the FYE101 – First Year Seminar Course<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
