The HTC is a resource to promote to your students as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/thurman\/about-us\/about-the-htc\/\">\u201ca place where cultural expression in all of its forms is embraced and encouraged.\u201d\u00a0<\/a>HTC is an important resource for all undergraduate affairs administrators to\u00a0familize themselves with.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The HTC\u00a0 has Student Ambassadors who help run the programs and build community.\u00a0The HTC\u00a0<\/span>hosts discussions and drop-ins, as well as special events. Weekly events include things such as the HTC <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/thurman\/programs\/coffee-convo\/\">Coffee and Conversation<\/a> on Fridays 3-5pm. Be sure to join the <a href=\"https:\/\/list.robly.com\/subscribe?a=975bd06a42c159cfe1cc6a34f4f0753a\">HTC mailing list<\/a> here to receive weekly newsletters and learn about programs and events going on with the HTC.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Diversity-Focused Student Groups &amp; Programming<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It is important to make sure that we promote and encourage diversity-focused student groups and programming. Several departments have certain community-focused group to help promote diversity such as STEM-women focused groups, or first-generation support communities, as well as URM communities. Other groups are for the BU community in general as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Some examples of these communities are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/lernet\/artemis\/\">Artemis Project <\/a>&#8211; run by undergraduate women at BU and conducts a summer program to introduce high school girls to the STEM field.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bu.campuslabs.com\/engage\/organization\/mixedstudentsunion\">Mixed Student Union<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; creates a safe space and builds a community of students who are mixed race or feel disconnected to their culture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can find a complete list of related University initiatives and news on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/diversity\/\">Diversity &amp; Inclusion website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground (HTC) at BU Howard Thurman worked to shatter barriers that separate people based on race, culture, religion, ethnicity, gender, and sexual identity.
