This society recognizes and encourages superior scholarship among students enrolled in professional entry-level programs at accredited educational programs across the United States.\u00a0Established in 1958,\u00a0at the University of New Hampshire (UNH), PTE has evolved into a nationally\u00a0recognized organization with purposes of which all occupational therapists can be proud and\u00a0with a structure that supports these purposes and the resulting programs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Pi<\/strong> is the first letter of the Greek word for advancement.<br \/>\n<strong>Theta<\/strong> is the first letter of the Greek word for therapeutic.<br \/>\n<strong>Epsilon<\/strong> is the first letter of the Greek word for occupation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Therefore, Pi Theta Epsilon stands for &#8220;advancement in occupational therapy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8220;The <strong>mission<\/strong> of Pi Theta Epsilon is to support the development of occupational sciences and the practice of authentic occupational therapy by promoting research, leadership, and scholarly activities by its members. In this way, the organization serves not only the profession, but helps to insure quality health care services for the general public.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\uf076 To recognize and encourage scholastic\u00a0excellence of occupational therapy students<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\uf076 To contribute to the advancement of the\u00a0field of occupational therapy through\u00a0scholarly activities, such as research\u00a0development, continuing education, and\u00a0information exchange between student and\u00a0alumni members; and<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\uf076 To provide a vehicle for students enrolled in accredited programs in OT to exchange\u00a0information and to collaborate regarding\u00a0scholarly activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Membership<\/strong> in Pi Theta Epsilon is extended to eligible students by individual chapters in accordance with national criteria specified in the constitution of the society. Election of new members shall include those who have demonstrated superior scholarship.
