Mira Kelly-Fair<\/strong> (Enrolled in PhD in 2021). Mira works on NSF Strong Coasts project and has also completed two National Science Foundation Fellowships: the Advanced Studies Institute (<\/span>ASI<\/a>) on Coastal Zone Hazards in summer 2023 and an International Research Experience for Students (IRES) in summer 2021. Mira is also the current president of the Earth and Environment Graduate Student Association\u00a0(<\/span>GSA<\/a>) and the treasurer\u00a0of Boston University\u2019s out in STEM (<\/span>oSTEM<\/a>). Mira loves the ocean and is a science guide on New England Aquarium whale watching tours.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Past Students (2021-2024). <\/strong>Yaxiong Ma received his PhD in July 2021 for\u00a0 Spatializing Coupled Human and Natural System (CHANS). <\/b><\/i>He is now a post-doc at BU. His\u00a0\u00a0related to spatial modeling and spatial statistics. His first paper on Boston Housing is published in the\u00a0Sustainability<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>2018<\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>10<\/em>(4),\u00a0 entitled Geographically Weighted Regression Models in Estimating Median Home Prices in Towns of Massachusetts Based on an Urban Sustainability Framework. \u00a0<\/span>https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/su10041026<\/a>. His second paper aims to develop a new and improved algorithm to map the spatial distribution and dynamics of floating and emergent aquatic vegetation in on detecting floating vegetation in the Lake Kyoga region of Africa. The study utilizes a time series of 440 Landsat images dating from 1986-2020. A series of water and
      \nvegetation indices are designed to characterize and map the maximum extent of water bodies and identify aquatic vegetation.<\/p>\n

      <\/p>\n

      His third paper examines\u00a0\u00a0biodiversity impacts resulting from energy\u00a0<\/span>investments with and without Chinese development finance.<\/span>\u00a0Spatial morphological pattern analysis is proposed to examine the relationships between forest core and edge effects on biodiversity. The analysis enables us to address conservation questions relevant to developmental finance in energy in
      \ndifferent forest structures.\u00a0His\u00a0fourth paper is “      Seeing The Invisible: From imagined to virtual urban landscapes<\/em><\/a>” analyzing gas leaks in Boston. Ma designed a Virtual Reality (VR) application\u00a0to show\u00a0the interconnectedness of infrastructure features in cities. VR proved to be useful for communicating spatial information to urban stakeholders about the complexities of infrastructure ecology and the interactions between infrastructure features.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Jessica Wright is working on the detection and impacts of gas leaks in Boston.<\/p>\n

      Andrea Digiorgio received her PhD in Anthropology\u00a0for \u201cUnderstanding Nutrient Drivers and Movement Ecology of Bornean Orangutan Foraging Behavior\u201d. \u00a0Andrea is a member of the\u00a0<\/span><\/a>Princeton Writing Program Seminar Faculty(link is external)<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span>.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

      Che Xin, now a doctoral student at UCLA. He completed his masters\u00a0 at BU in 2019.<\/p>\n

      Juliette Bateman was BA\/MA student who was part of our NSF IRES cohort that visited Indonesia in 2019. Our findings\u00a0were presented in IGARSS\u00a02019 <\/a>conference. She is now a remote sensing specialist in USDA.<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

      Emma Quirk <\/a>worked on mapping biodiversity in SE Asia using geospatial data. She is a\u00a0GeoAnalytics Analyst<\/span><\/span>\u00a0at\u00a0<\/span>Boston Consulting Group (BCG)<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

      Xingqiang Xu<\/a> completed his master’s in 2021. He is now a doctoral student at Vanderbilt University.<\/p>\n
