This past weekend’s round of concerts was wrapped up beautifully by the exceptionally talented musicians in the Young Artists Piano Program this Monday. Featuring 11 of the program’s students, the concert explored a variety of distinct sound worlds drawn from the works of Chopin, Beethoven, Liszt, and Ravel among others. Unlike the large ensemble concerts that preceded it, the piano recital was held in Ventfort Hall which offered an elegant and intimate performance venue. This enabled the students to give a more nuanced performance. With effervescent technical passages contrasting against periods of melancholic stasis, the students used the full range of the piano’s expressive potential. The concert was concluded with one of the student’s performing his own original composition, highlighting both the musical talent and versatility of our students this year. Their hard work and dedication were clearly exhibited in the high caliber performance; we are excited to watch their musical growth as they continue to hone their craft and prepare for their next performance.
