John Tormey: Ireland
I will be staying in the west of Ireland for the month of July. Ireland has been part of my imagination since I was very young. I grew up with stories from both sides of my family and how they came to America. Now I have a chance to get to know the place they left behind a little better, learn a bit of the native language (Irish/Gaelic), and do research for the novel I began writing this spring, part of which takes place in County Galway in the late 1950s. It will be hard for me to spend so long away from my wife and young son, but I think the rewards will far exceed the cost. I am very grateful for the chance to find out.
