My current work focuses on nanoplasmonic infrared QCL/SEIRA system for biochemical detection. The main purpose is to develop a new capability for biochemical detection and imaging.  Specifically, integration of the IR nanoplasmonic technology with IR quantum cascade laser and digital focal plane array technology will be explored for the purpose of developing a new instrument for biochemical sensing and imaging. Contrast is provided by the intrinsic vibrational normal modes of the biomolecules themselves. This work will replace the current IR biochemical imaging technology that is based primarily on FTIR spectrometry. The integration of nanoplasmonic structures, quantum cascade lasers and digital focal plane arrays for the purpose of developing a biochemical imaging system will become an important tool for clinical pathology.
