Drexel arts administration professor James Underclofler is developing a course in arts entrepreneurship. He reminds us that arts entrepreneurship is not career counseling for artists. Such counseling is important but it is a distinct objective that might be called professional development, whereas arts entrepreneurship “…encourages whole systems (to be) rethought and reconstructed, where fundamental changes, both in substance and thought take place.”

This is an important distinction to make – arts entrepreneurship is a line of research that seeks to demonstrate not only how artists can benefit from business, but how business can be made more effective, and socially aware, using the same creativity applied by artists.

These are among the many discussions our collaboration with the SMG Organizational Behavior faculty has embarked on with us in CFA. Professor Jack McCarthy and Chuck Agon have been real believers in the value of interaction with our CFA work….not only because of our ‘product’ but also because of our process. It has been a good experience for us all…now in our third year of collaboration!
