Crowdfunding Success

Team Dance natty

Friday, March 6th was the end of BUDT’s first ever BU Crowdfunding campaign. Over the course of a few weeks, we were able to raise $19,715! We are now able to get all of our girls to Daytona Beach, Florida for our national competition from April 9th-11th, buy our costumes, and pay for our choreography. Not only that, but we raised enough funds to also go to camp in August where we can fight for our chance to compete in the 2016 nationals. We couldn’t have done it without all of the love and support from our loyal fans, so thank you!

Last Home Game This Season

On Saturday, February 28th at last gameAgganis Arena, The BU Dance Team performed at our last home basketball game this season. It was a hard game to watch as BU Men's Basketball took on Holy Cross, but we made the best of it still cheering our hearts out on the sidelines. We also celebrated our national title from last April with a ceremony at halftime. It was great to bring last year's team together and take another picture with our trophy in front of our friends and family. Ring CeremonyWith the last season game over, it is now time to move on to nationals season! Make sure to keep up to date on our blog to see how nationals goes in April. Also, we wish both the Men's and Women's Basketball teams best of luck in the playoffs!    Go Terriers!

Kicking Off Basketball Season (Literally)

BUDT TD garden

BUDT at the TD Garden.

With 21 girls on the team, we really kicked off the basketball season with a bang.It all started at our annual Men’s Basketball Game at the TD Garden on November 16th against Northeastern. It was a rough game, but we had lots of fun dancing and being seen on the jumbotron. It’s always exciting to perform in front of a big crowd on all four sides of the court and can’t wait until the basketball games start in BU’s own Agganis Arena!

Make sure to come check out the Men’s first game in Agganis Arena on Saturday, January 10th at 1pm!

On December 14th, we wished a Happy 70th Birthday to the Mayor of Terrier Nation, Elliot Driben! Complete with a cake and giant card signed by all of BU’s athletes, we celebrated Elliot’s birthday in the middle of the court during halftime. It’s always an honor to stand next to Elliot, and we want to thank him for all his support not only to us, but every BU athlete. To hear more about Elliot’s story please visit here .

BUDT Gives Back

It has definitely been a busy start to the year, however that hasn’t kept us from remembering what is important! Each year the team participates in a variety of charity events across the greater Boston area, and this year has been no different.

On September 6th the team volunteered at The American Heart Association’s Annual Heart Walk, on September 27th volunteered at the JDRF One Walk for Diabetes, and on October 18th volunteered at the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk To End Alzheimer's phone bank.

At all of the events we had a great time helping out or cheering on the participants! We appreciate the opportunity to help raise awareness for three incredible organizations and already can’t wait for the 2014 Holiday Reading with the Boston Public Schools!

BUDT Becomes National Champs

 nationals 2014 56

Yeah, you read that title right. The Boston University Dance Team, for the first time in the program's history has been named National Champions for their hip hop performance at the NDA National Collegiate Dance Competition in Daytona Beach, Florida. It was definitely a record breaking weekend, as the girls also placed second in the team routine competition. Again, the highest the team has ever placed in this category, and quite the jump from the fifth place finish the year prior. For anyone who has been following the team from the beginning of the semester, you know that this has been one of the toughest seasons the team has experienced yet. They had to be resilient when starting off the year without practice space, performing at an exhausting amount of events, losing team members, and of course being challenged more than they have ever before with tougher choreography, longer practices, all while remaining good students. But after this weekend, I think if you asked each girl, she would say, "The work was worth it."

liz and kait I think what made the victory so sweet, was the fact that this team never expected it. Every year BUDT comes back stronger and yet, they keep the modest opinions of their talent and skill with them. These girls love to dance, but they came to Boston University first and foremost as scholars. Sometimes, it's hard to compete with teams that live, breath and went to college for the sole purpose of performing. But if there's one thing these girls have it's heart, and knowing how to work hard. This was the nationals that the girls needed to realize their potential and start believing that they are "Top Dogs." They have what it takes, and they have the heart to take them there. If you ask any girl on the team, they would tell you they had no expectations for hip hop. It was their first time competing an all hip hop routine, and right off their second place victory in team dance, all the girls wanted to do was have fun. They knew better not to let go of all their training, but the girls took the hip hop floor without nerves, nothing but excitement to dance and perform. They had already exceeding their goal, this was just the victory lap. The result? Performing the routine the best they ever had, becoming national champs, and having the most fun they ever had performing. That's what it's all about right?

The girls know that this means it's just going to be even harder next year, but clearly challenges never got in the way of nationals 2014 4BUDT's success before and they don't planning on next year being the first. The experience has been thrilling... from basketball games, to local competitions, to their eventual success, and finally, to representing Boston and the victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon down in Daytona. There has been no greater honor then sharing the stage with 17 of the strongest girls out there, and sharing a piece of home with the world...or at least the dance world.

The team would like to thank everyone that has believed in them from the very beginning, from the super fans, to their friends and family, and of course their two amazing coaches: Liz Stilwell and Kaitlyn Busconi...this would have been impossible without you. You can catch NDA's coverage of the dance team's performance here AND here! PS. Congrats to BU Cheer for making Finals for the first time in the program's history! You can check out their videos here! Stay tuned for info on camp and auditions...as one adventure ends, another begins! If you are interested in joining the BU Dance Team or have any questions at all be sure to email us at budt@bu.edu!

1. Join us, and a whole bunch of awesome teams from New England at the Bryant Cheer and Dance Daytona Send-off this Sunday at 2PM! Don't miss the chance to see BUDT perform in their shiny, new uniforms, and check out some of our favorite teams too!

2. This night is all BU all the time, it's the Annual BU Cheer & Dance National Send-off. You don't even have to leave campus to go to this one.
