A Great Start to Our 2015-2016 Season!

The Boston University Squash team is extremely proud of all that we have accomplished thus far in the season. However, none of this could be possible without our friends and family who have supported us and have kept this program alive. We are extremely grateful to all of our supporters and hope to continue to make you all proud.

Most recently the men and the women faced Tufts on Saturday, November 21st. Although it was an extremely tough match, considering Tufts is a varsity team, the BU squash team really gave all it their all. Although none of the women won, all of the games were extremely close. The men also were challenged by Tufts. BU's only victory was an exciting match between Marwan Sallam ('19) and Braden Chiulli (Tufts '18), number one on the ladder. Marwan was able to win 4-1.

Although the tough loss against Tufts, the team was had a great turn out in terms of friends and family - thank you all for coming.

Coming up next, the men are traveling to Swathmore for a Round Robin December 5th and 6th. We wish them good luck!

11/14-11/15 Colgate University Round Robin

HAMILTON, NY - The Boston University Women Squash team had a very successful weekend at Colgate University's Round Robin where they faced 5 other teams.

Their first match against Hobart and William Smith Colleges, was a rough start to the weekend given that WS is a cup higher than us. Although the team had some very competitive games, overall the team lost 9-0.

However the team was able to turn it around for their second match against the University of Rochester where they won 9-1. With overall successful matches, Alex Smith (16’) had some tougher competition as number 1. BU women played very smart and were able to dominate the games by hitting smooth rails and cross-courts. Freshman Shelby Bannom, won her first collegiate match as number 9, winning 3-2, a very exciting start to her college squash career.

To finish off day one, the team played Smith College, where BU won 9-0. Everyone played very well given that it was our 3rd match of the day hitting strong serve.

To start off day two, BU faced University of Minnesota. Although it was some stiffer competition than Rochester and Smith, BU was the stronger team winning 8-1. Once again, Alex Smith faced some tough competition as #1 and Allysha Wong (’18) had a solid win at #3 although she had a very frustrating opponent.

Colgate proved to be a great match up for our team. Everyone had tough competition. Jasmine Rishi put up a great fight at #5 but was ultimately unable to hold off her opponents incredible drop volleys. After losing the first two games, she was able to make a comeback in the third game by forcing her opponent to dig it out of the back, but was ultimately defeated 11-9 in the fourth game.

Co-captain Lily Wacker (’16) had an incredible match against Colgate's Courtney McGill as #4. Lily was hitting solid rails and able hold off her opponent in the second game. Tensions were high in the third game with McGill ultimately winning 18-16 in the third game and in the fourth. Allysha Wong showed a strong performance at #3 as well, forcing her opponent to run around the court to hit back her boasts. Yet as the game wore on, the exhaustion from the weekend came through, resulting in Colgate's victory.

Co-captain Chandler Burke showed a strong performance against Colgate at the #6 position. Her strong cross-courts and backhand drives helped her win a tight three games.

One of BUs new additions to the roster, Shelby Bannon, played the #9 position this weekend and successfully won 3 of her five matches. Congratulations Shelby!

BU had a strong performance this weekend, beating out three teams that are ranked above them in CSA's F Cup. We'd like to thank Colgate for hosting us this weekend and were looking forward to playing them again!

Captain Allan Chen (16') won his match 3-0, a great start to his senior year. There were also great matches from Nick Carlson (16') and Emanuel Andrade (19') who went 5 games but unfortunately lost.

Parker Tonissi (19') and Chris (17') played 4 extremely close games. The team is very excited for the upcoming season and cannot wait to face-off against MIT again.

Navy Weekend, BC and MIT

BU Squash started off the season with a round robin held at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. BU began the round robin facing off against home team Johns Hopkins. A tough opponent, BU lost this one, 2 – 7, but managed to win two games with strong performances by freshman Bonner and Lavoie. Next BU played the University of Minnesota for the first time in club history and won a resounding 7 - 2. The match was marred by club captain Ben Bunjapamai's foot injury acting up and forcing a forfeit. The last game of the day was against Home team Navy A. Always a very challenging opponent, the terriers put up a tough fight but conceded all games to the Naval Academy's varsity team. BU started Saturday off with a game against the University of Richmond and clinched an early win with the game score being 6 - 3. For the last game of the Round Robin the terriers sat their number 1 and 2 due to injury and played an incredibly fit and well-conditioned Navy B team. After many close and long drawn out matches the terriers lost by a narrow margin of 5 - 4.

The second match of the season pitted rival Boston University and Boston College against each other for the first time this season. The terriers were off to a good start and seemed to be headed to victory, however, after a few incredibly close matches BU lost to BC 2 - 7. Strong performances by Co-captain Jack Chambers and Freshman Joel Lavoie helped the terriers clinch two wins. The terriers were missing Bonner and Chen, numbers 2 and 6 respectively, due to injury.

The third match of the season so far saw the Terriers playing MIT. The results very disappointing game for BU, who have not seen such bad match scores against MIT in recent history. Nick Carlson playing number 9 brought in the only win for BU.

The club's next math will be on the 20th of November against Northeastern University.
