On Saturday, November 11, the Boston University Squash Team Team traveled to Annapolis Maryland to compete at the United States Naval Academy at the annual Veteran’s Weekend Round Robin.
The women began the weekend with a 5-4 victory against Johns Hopkins University. Number four seed Jackie Loring won the deciding match for the team, refusing to let up in a grueling 5 game competition (12-10, 7-11, 10-12, 11-9, 11-3) against her opponent. In the afternoon the women competed against Haverford College and Georgetown Universityrespectively. Both schools provided a tough challenge for the women who ultimately lost both matches (9-0). However, the team never faltered in their spirit or sportsmanship and look forward to the possibility of taking on both teams again at Nationals.
The men saw an equally challenging weekend as they competed against four teams: Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, Haverford, and Navy. The men found success against both John’s Hopkins and Georgetown, winning both matches with unwavering determination and confidence on the court. Haverford went on to claim a 8-1 victory over our team, but number two seed Marwan A. Sallam played an excellent match with his opponent David Chase. The match went to five games (9-11, 10-12, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8) the last of which determined Sallam’s win. The men succumbed to a loss against Navy (9-0), but were still able to keep their competitive edge throughout the entirety of every game.
Our team would like to extend another huge thank you to the United States Naval Academy for hosting us last weekend, as well as a thank you to those who came to support our team at the matches. This weekend, Saturday, November 18, the men and women will travel to Amherst College to compete.
