Monday, November 2nd
Breakfast Talk: 9:30 to 10:15 am, LSEB 103
Colloquium: 4pm, LSEB B01
Dr. Fran Perler, Senior Scientist in the Division of Chemical Biology at New England Biolabs (NEB) is this Monday’s Chemistry Colloquium Series speaker.
She joins BUWIC for a breakfast seminar on November 2nd from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. in the Life Sciences and Engineering Building (LSEB) 103.
Over coffee, Dr. Perler will describe her research interests, including intein-mediated protein splicing, and discuss the life choices she has made to arrive at her current position at NEB, where she has developed eight patents and published over 40 papers.
Following breakfast, Dr. Perler will present her ground-breaking research to the Chemistry Department at the 4 p.m. Colloquium in LSEB B01.
She will focus on “in-frame intervening sequences,” or “inteins,” and their unique ability to splice proteins at the post-translational level. She will explain intein motifs, evolution and their current applications.
Dr. Perler is also managing curator of NEB’s online intein database InBase.
