Over the winter holidays, BUWIC had the exciting opportunity to lunch with Dr. SuzAnn Hertzler, 2006 alum of BU Chemistry and analytical chemist and project director at Catalent Pharma Solution.
SuzAnn described the services, projects and fast-paced environment involved in Contract Research Organization (CRO). She explained how CROs play an integral role in a large portion of the drug discovery process, including drug formulation, analytical testing, toxicology, pharmacokinetics/dynamics, scale-up, clinical studies and marketing and distriubution.
“My group specializes in providing biopharmaceutical development support and performing analytical biomolecule structural characterization under cGMP and GSP guidelines. As project director, I manage client projects and the analyst performing the work. I develop and execute method validations, write and modify SOPs, analytical test methods, technical testing protocols, ICPs, and quotes, as well as serving as the point of client contact.” – SuzAnn
